Page 114 of Resolve

Gavin cradled her against him as a sheet was pulled over them. Amber forced her eyes open and gazed up at him.

“Rest.”

She snuggled against his chest, loving the feel of his hair against her cheek, and closed her eyes. Tomorrow, she’d face the consequences of what they’d done, but not tonight. Tonight, she wanted to stay in this blissful contentment.

Amber woke hot and sweaty. She tried to push the sheet off, but there was no fabric, only hard muscle. She jerked awake. Gavin’s arm and leg held her in place. How? The events of last night rolled over her like rogue wave. Oh God, what had they done?

His head rested on her collarbone, his warm breath brushing against her skin. No wonder she was hot. His body gave off heat worthy of a furnace turned on high. She gazed at him as he slept. Gone were the lines of fatigue she’d seen yesterday.

He’d given her multiple orgasms last night and had driven her crazy with his toys. She flushed. He was the perfect Dominant for her in the bedroom. Amber let out a soft sigh.

“What is the sigh for?”

Gavin was staring at her, his blue eyes bright and filled with wicked intentions.

“I need to get to work.” She shifted beneath him.

“It’s Saturday.” He leaned down and licked her nipple.

Damned if her pussy didn’t tighten. Gathering her resolve around her like a cloak, she glared at him. “I still have to work. Now move. Please.”

Gavin groaned and rolled over. Amber swung her legs off the mattress and stood. Her clothes were on the floor in a heap. The only saving grace was that Ruby was meeting with a bride today, so no walk of shame. After gathering up her wrinkled clothes, she strode into the bathroom.

Once inside, she crumbled against the closed door. What had she done? Her body ached in places she hadn’t known about. On the one hand, she wanted to stay; on the other, she wanted to run. Fast. Amber pushed away from the door and turned the water on at the sink.

She splashed water on her face, used a washcloth to clean up, and got dressed. There was no future for them. There never could be. The secret she kept and had shared with only one person doomed the relationship before it even started.

Gavin slidfrom bed and pulled on a pair of clean shorts before he padded to the kitchen and put on coffee. Amber was already retreating behind those stone walls of hers, and he had no intention of letting her hide anymore.

He’d let her run once, but not again. The coffee pot gave its last gurgle. He pulled the carafe from the machine and filled two travel mugs. He added milk in hers and sugar to his. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. “I have coffee for you.” He twisted the top on the mugs, turned, and held hers out to her.

“I need to get home so I can change.” Her voice was soft, but she took the travel mug from him and took a sip. “Oh, that’s good.”

He smiled from behind his own mug. If there was one thing he knew how to do, it was make coffee. Her clothes were wrinkled, her expression closed off.

“Let me go get dressed, and I’ll run you home.” Gavin wasn’t going to fight with her right now. There would be time for them later; he’d make sure of it.

“What time willyou be done at work today?” Gavin asked as he drove to her place.

“About five, if everything goes well.”

“Perfect. I’ll make a reservation at Giovanni’s for seven.”

“Gavin—” she started, but he held up his hand.

“No hiding. No going back. You and me, Amber. We’re together now. Get used to it.”

“You can’t bully me into a relationship.”

“Bully?” His fingers tightened around the steering wheel. “Give me one good reason we can’t have a relationship.” He was tempted to pull the vehicle over and take her over his knee and spank her. When she didn’t say a word, he continued. “To be perfectly clear, I’m a Dominant in and out of the bedroom. I refuse to let you dismiss what we have together.”

Fire flashed in her eyes. “I won’t allow anyone interfere with my business. It was just sex.”
