“You should probably go.” As I say it, I grab my sheet, wrapping it around me.

He looks disappointed, and I feel a little bad, but for the most part I don’t care. Why the fuck would he think I’d want him to stay when he didn’t even bother to make me come?

“Just gotta take a piss.”

Simon gets up, moving into the bathroom. And that’s when I hear it—the telltale sound of soft footsteps making their way down the hallway.

When Dominic steps into my bedroom, I keep my facial expression neutral, even when I notice the gun in his hand. It sends sparks of excitement shooting through my bloodstream.

I shouldn’t be enjoying this. Shouldn’t be offering Simon up like some kind of sacrificial lamb, even if he’s an asshole.

But I am who I am, and maybe after the way I’ve been raised, I’m a little bit of a monster. The thing is, I recognize that part of myself in Dominic. It shines through in tiny moments, beckoning to me, just like it’s doing right now.

You’re playing with fire. That’s what he told me this afternoon. But as we watch each other, and I nod to the bathroom, I see the realization on his face, and it sends a wave of heat through my body.

He’s beginning to get it.

I’m not playing with fire.

I’m not a moth drawn to his flame.

I am the fire, the flames dancing in the darkness, andhe’sthe one who can’t help but move closer.

Chapter thirteen

Dominic

WhenIseeJade’sdate pull up in front of her house, it takes everything in me to not march across the street and blow his brains out. I don’t know how long I stare at her house after she lets him in.

She already dropped Rosie off at her friend’s, so they’re alone, doing god knows what. The thought puts me in a white-hot rage that I try to calm down with a cold shower.

It only makes things worse.

Once I’ve toweled off and changed, I can’t help myself. I move to one of my front windows in my bedroom, shoving it wide open. The late summer air hits my face as I take in her house.

Her bedroom light is on, and I have to force myself to look away when I see her naked, standing in front of her date. When I look back, he’s kissing her, gripping the back of her neck in a way that I’ve wanted to do for over a year.

He backs her up and pushes her onto the bed, kneeling in between her legs. I grit my teeth, turning my back. Is she really doing this? Two days ago, she said she wanted to fuckme. And now she’s fucking a stranger?

“Fuck.Shit.”

This is exactly what she said she’d do. She said she wouldn’t wait, and I knew she wasn’t lying.

I have no one to blame but myself.

Forcing myself to take a deep breath, I turn back to Jade’s house. Her date has his head in between her legs, but she looks... bored. When she winces, I grip the windowsill so hard my fingers ache.

I drink her in—the curve of her body, her breasts that would fit perfectly in my hands, and her dark hair still up in a loose bun. But her shoulders are too tense. Instead of writhing in pleasure, she grimaces as he runs a hand up her leg.

The guy stands, saying something, an arrogant smirk on his face that makes my stomach twist with something I’d prefer not to name. He fists himself, pausing when she grabs something from her nightstand.

A condom.

Thank fuck.

He looks disappointed but puts it on without much of a fight. When he slides into her, I tear my eyes away from the disappointed look on her face. He keeps his hands on her arms, pumping in and out of her as she grips the comforter—and not from pleasure.

The guy comes in a measly thirty fucking seconds, and she smiles up at him and nods. It’s the first time she’s looked him in the eye since I started watching them.
