“I don’t know the time as of yet,” Ginger said before I could ask. “Jace says he’ll get back to you as soon as he knows.”
We left it at that, and I hung up. As I turned to Cindy, I offered her a frown. She smiled, already knowing.
“It’s fine, Phantom. Let me finish applying this shit to your back and then you can leave.”
When she was done I hauled up my shirt and tucked it under my arm, heading for the exit.
“Hey, Phantom.”
I stopped and stared back at her. “Yeah?”
“I think I may be able to help you guys out with this Harvest bullshit. I know a guy with a truck. Give me a few hours and wait for my call.”
Chapter 44
Samara
Iwassittingonthe couch on this lame as fuck Wednesday night, shoveling popcorn in my mouth as I watched this Katherine bitch from the Vampire Diaries murder Caroline while she was in the hospital. As the episode ended, I growled my annoyance and desperately searched around for the remote, anxious to see what the fuck was about to happen next.
Please turn into a vampire.
Please turn into a vampire.
Please tell me the Salvatore brothers kill that jealous fucking—
I shrieked as the front door flew open. Whipping around, panting hard, my eyes grew monstrously wide at what—or more like who, I saw next.
“SKY!?”
She squealed and dropped her bags on the floor, charging at me fast with her arms spread wide.
“God I fucking missed you,” I cried, unable to stop the tears forming in my eyes.
“I missed you too,” she sniffled. “So fucking much.”
We held each other for a long moment. I closed my eyes, embracing the rush of relief coursing through my veins.
“I-I don’t understand,” I said when we parted. “Why didn’t you call me and tell me you were coming back today?”
“I wanted it to be a surprise,” she said as she wiped under her eyes, smearing her makeup. “Plus, the place my parents sent me to doesn’t allow phones.” She frowned. “It was fucking horrible, Samara. I thought I was going to die without my phone.”
“It’s okay. You’re back now and that’s all that matters.” I bit my lip, trying to ignore the sick feeling bubbling in my gut. “Have uh, have you seen Brian yet?”
I’d been avoiding him since that night he tried to kiss me. Instead of eating lunch in the dining hall, I came back to the dorm. He hadn’t tried talking to me or much less made any attempts to approach me. Guess that meant he must’ve been avoiding me too.
“No.” Sky’s frown deepened. “I’m not ready to talk to him yet. I’d rather just stay here and spend time with my best friend.”
I wanted to tell her. Ineededto tell her.
But I couldn’t summon the courage to do it.
She just got back. I missed her something fucking serious. The last thing I wanted to do was upset her by telling her that her boyfriend tried to kiss me.
“What’cha watching?” Sky turned to the TV, her eyes wide. “Holy shit, you’re at one of the best fucking parts. Caroline turns into a vampire!”
I scoffed and threw up my hands, shooting her a nasty glare.
“Oh.” Sky scrunched her face. “Spoiler alert, huh?”
