We all saw the interest spark between the two of them but she shut it down almost immediately. Giving him her “I’m not interested” look.

“I am. Usually I surf a few competitions before I move on to the next one, but I’ve been in Cape Town for a while now. And I blame this guy for keeping me here. He’s the reason the city has become my home base.”

Spider gave a slow nod. “I get it. Surfing is my second favourite thing after riding my bike.”

Wrath laughed and shook his head. “Looks like you’ve found your tribe, brother. Now you won’t have to go off to the beach on your own, you can tag along with Kellen. That’s to say if he lets you.”

I jumped in to assure him he was welcome. He looked like a nice guy.

“You’re welcome to come with me. I’m usually at the beach at sunrise and surf for a couple of hours before I go to work. I’m not going to be surfing any time soon though. My doctors are saying I have to heal fully before I can go back in the water.”

He smiled and nodded. “I don’t mind waiting. I look forward to riding a couple of waves with you.”

From the corner of my eye I saw Strange narrowing her eyes ever so slightly. I knew exactly what that meant. She wasn’t happy that I had invited him to surf with us.

My friend was interested in the man but fighting it.

I wondered why.

He was totally her type.

Tall and well-built, with broad shoulders, long blonde hair, blue eyes and very pretty.

And he surfed.

She hasn’t dated anyone in a while and this might be just what she needed.

Someone new to focus on after the last asswipe she wasted her time on.

“I’m being rude, I never introduced you to my visitors.” I said and pointed at the bikers. “This is Kid, Spider and Wrath, and they ride with the Iron Dogz MC.”

“And this lovely lady is my friend Strange.” I waved a hand her way and watched as they all did the nodding and smiling thing while taking each other in.

“No other name?” Kid asked quietly.

“Nope, no other name. Just Strange. My mentor started it when I was about ten and it stuck.” She said with a shrug.

“Spider and Wrath are going to hang out with me today. Are you going to hang with us?” I stirred the pot ever so slightly.

Pulling a face she leant over and kissed me on the forehead.

“Wish I could but I’m meeting Brody and Adam. We’re taking some tourists out on a dive. I just popped in to check on you before I have to leave. I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon. Be good and don’t give the nurses too much grief.”

While she was talking to me I hadn’t been paying attention to the bikers but as she walked out after a wave to them I noticed that Kid was typing away on his phone. And Wrath had his out as well but he slipped it back into his pocket after typing something.

Spider watched her as she strutted out the door. And the way he watched her?

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Kid didn’t stay long after she left. As he walked out two men I hadn’t noticed standing outside my room fell in behind him.

I wasn’t the only one who was being protected it seemed.

Did it make me feel better?

Not much.
