He was wearing the dark grey sweatpants and light blue t-shirt I had left in his cupboard last night. On his feet were the thick grey socks that would keep them warm. The clothes and socks were soft enough not to irritate his healing wounds. There were questions in his eyes and he didn’t hesitate to voice them.

“Why am I suddenly leaving the hospital when this morning the doc said I had to stay two more days?”

On the one hand I wanted to tell him about Pixie but on the other I didn’t want him worried.

Honesty won out.

“Something happened this morning. There was an attempt to kidnap Pixie when she left here. Their attempt failed, she was saved by a biker who took her to the Road Warriors clubhouse. She’s safe and Wild Man has her under lockdown at their compound.”

His eyes were wide and shocked.

“Do you think it was the same people who came after me?”

I shrugged because I didn’t know for certain but I had my suspicions.

“I don’t know, Kell.”

I didn’t want to say more because I knew he would worry.

Spider stepped in and settled the matter for me.

“You don’t have to worry, Kell. We’ve got our shit locked up tight. No way are a couple of wannabe kidnappers are going to get to you. You have my word.” He nodded towards the door. “Let’s get you out of here and to the clubhouse. We have a full protection detail waiting to escort us to the compound. Anyone who tries to get to you will have to go through us and I promise you they won’t.”

His reassurance seemed to calm Kellen down. After signing some paperwork I pushed him to the lifts to ride down to the reception.

We made quite a procession.

Stuart, Luke, Darren and Lex walked ahead of Kellen and I, with Spider and Wrath watching our backs.

Outside the front entrance our bullet proofed SUV waited with another parked behind it. Several bikes waited in front and behind the vehicles. While I helped Kellen into the back seat Spider and Wrath got their bikes and pulled up on either side of the vehicle.

Deke was our driver and once we were settled I gave him a nod.

Our procession slowly pulled out of the hospital grounds and headed towards the Iron Dogz MC’s compound.

I would only breathe easy once we had him safe behind their walls.

The trip was uneventful but we drew a lot of attention. That was unavoidable.

At the compound things went fast.

We pulled through the gates and Orca and Kid were waiting for us. I got out to greet them, leaving Kellen in the car. He didn’t say it but I could see by the pinched look on his face that he was in pain.

I shook hands and once again reiterated how grateful I was. Orca just smiled and shook his head.

“We’re in this together, brother. You do what you have to do and we’ll keep him safe. No one is coming through our gates unless we allow them to. And we won’t be allowing anyone through until we hear from you. We’re on a lockdown until such time as it’s safe. Let’s get your boy settled in his room.”

Behind me Spider and Wrath already had the door open and was helping Kellen out of the car. He was white as a sheet.

“That man is not going to be able to walk inside.” Kid said softly. “We unfortunately don’t have a wheelchair but two of the brothers can help carry him in. If it’s okay with you?”

Looking at Kellen I knew it was the truth.

He could barely stand and knowing the extent of his injuries I agreed. I didn’t want him to tear his stitches by trying to walk.

I left them to go to where Kell stood weaving between Wrath and Spider. Lex stood at his back, ready to catch him if necessary. Before I could say a word Wrath and another brother who by his looks was obviously a family member formed a seat with their clasped hands and Lex held his shoulders as he carefully seated himself. I held his hands to steady him. A groan escaped as he sat down and I let go of his hands so he could hold on to the two men on either side of him.

“Let’s get him to his room so he can lie down.” A soft voice spoke next to me. A woman in jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt stood next to me, her eyes focused on Kell.
