Not home actually.
More like going into protective custody.
The plan was to stash him in either the Maingarde Building or at the mansion on the Maingarde Estate. That plan has now changed.
This morning when I mentioned the mansion as a possibility he flipped out. He told me in no uncertain terms that he wouldn’t be setting foot inside the house. None of us blamed him for not wanting to go to the house, it was understandable, but unfortunately it was one of our more secure properties.
And I needed him secure while we went after Winifred Harrison.
He wasn’t happy with going to the mansion and I wasn’t happy with him staying at the penthouse.
It meant I had to find an alternative we could both accept.
I didn’t want to leave him unprotected in the MGC building while we went after the hag. With all of us going after the Harrison Syndicate he would be alone in the building with only the normal security guards as protection.
I didn’t like that at all.
There had to be somewhere I could leave him where he would be protected and safe.
There were only a handful of people I would trust with his safety.
One of those people was Noe, better known as Face, and of course her husband, Kid Knight. Face has been a long-time friend and ally of Dom’s and we have worked together on several operations. Kid transferred from Johannesburg to take the vacant VP position at the Iron Dogz MC in Cape Town and was a trusted ally. The two of them would be at the top of my list of people I would trust with my man.
Next on the list was Rooster, one of Pixie’s best friends and the Enforcer at the local chapter of the Road Warriors MC.
It meant I would be making some phone calls.
If Kid Knight agreed to take Kellen in it would mean owing him and his club a favour. The same with Rooster and the Road Warriors MC.
And I couldn’t go ahead without talking to Dom first.
Pulling the door closed behind me I walked down to his office, knocked and walked right in. I wasn’t worried about interrupting anything because we had finished a meeting about ten minutes ago. It had been with everyone involved in the take down of the Harrison Syndicate.
I knew he didn’t have anyone in his office as they would have passed by mine to get to him.
It was one of the reasons why my office was closest to the reception area. It served as a buffer between him and the front office.
No one got past me or the bodyguard on duty in the office across from mine.
Dom looked up as I walked in and closed the door behind me.
“Do we have a problem?” He asked with a frown when he saw my face.
“Kellen refuses to stay at the Estate and if I bring him here as I planned it means he’s alone with only the normal security guards as protection when we go after the hag. I don’t want to leave him here without one of the teams as his protection. And there’s no way we will be able to spare a team to stay with him when the time comes. With your approval I would like to reach out to Kid Knight to see if the Iron Dogz would be willing to take him in until we’ve attended to our Harrison problem. If he says no then I’ll reach out to Rooster and the Road Warriors.”
He gave a slow nod as he thought it through.
“There’s another option. I can call Noe and organise for him to stay with her crew.” He offered but I immediately shook my head.
“Her crew is small and well trained but I’ll feel more comfortable with Kellen behind the high walls of the MC. The club has more men available to put on his protection detail. And to be honest I don’t want her ladies drawing even more attention to themselves. They’re already much too visible to those working for the Harrisons. I’m not going to make it worse by taking him to them.”
Dom’s eyes narrowed as he weighed our options. When he nodded I knew he had come to a decision.
“You’re right. We should avoid drawing them into our business. Reach out to Kid and let me know what he says. If we owe them a favour that’s fine, we’ll deal with it when the time comes. There’s nothing they could ask us of us that we haven’t done before.” His left eyebrow rose as he shrugged and I gave a slight smile.
He was right. Having been part of the Harrison Syndicate for so many years we have both done things that no law abiding citizen would ever do. We had blood on our hands. Mine were a lot bloodier than his because I protected him by taking care of the darker side of our business. And by protecting him I protected Pixie as well.
And that reminded me.
