I wanted to stick ice cubes up my cooter. That’s how sore I was, but I would not say it out loud around the boys. Gods in the heavens, when I went to the bathroom, I thought I was going to die from the sting, but it was a good sting. It reminded me of all the pleasure I had last night. He was a regular Casanova. I was hoping for a long bath with him this morning to soothe my muscles, but Osirus wouldn’t let me out of his sight. “You can’t leave my side!” he told me darkly. All right then.
Osirus had always been possessive, not werewolf possessive, but enough to show everyone I was his. Now he was acting like I was going to disappear. A hand always graced my back or waist, not one inch separating our bodies.
Osirus gave Alaneo a slight growl and pulled me closer if that was possible. Goddess have mercy on my lady bits.
“What is so important that you had to disturb us this morning?” Osirus was pissed, his voice was deep, and his brows were furrowed. Osirus was usually the calm and collected one, and here he was, showing all his feelings.Did I do something wrong? Did something happen?
“Yes, I’m sorry, Your Majesty.” Alaneo cleared his throat.
“Peoni has some information to give us, but she was, indeed, given a Faithful Tonic and will need the antidote to free her from her secrets. We need your permission to retrieve an alchemist.” Osirus started writing on some parchment while Alaneo lit a candle. Taking the wax stick, he dripped a few drops on the paper and Osirus placed his seal.
“Don’t bother us again for the rest of the day,” Osirus barked. They all looked at Osirus as he stood up and carried me with one arm behind my back and one under my legs.
“Osirus, you are being all being grumpy. You don’t speak like that to your friends.” Osirus grunted and took me around the desk.
“They are looking at what is mine. I’ll take you where I damn well please to get their fucking eyes off you.” My heart fluttered, and my thighs inched together. Was it just me, or was that extremely hot?
Then Everett took a few steps forward to speak to me, but Osirus whipped his head around and let down his fangs.
“Osirus!” I yelled and gripped his tunic tighter. The grip holding me was so tight, it was starting to hurt.
“He needs to mark you, Melina. The sooner the better,” Everett used his deep voice. “You think wolves are possessive? Wait until you get a fae that didn’t complete the bond.” Everyone nodded while Osirus growled again.
“I know what is best for my mate, so stay out of it!” he snapped while he stormed out of the room.
Talk about PMS.
“You need to calm down,” I demanded softly. Osirus didn’t take us back to our chambers, but led us outside. His cape was still dragging behind him as he went down the massive steps at the front of the palace. Guards were stationed in every entryway, and a few followed as Osirus came close to the gates.
“Leave us,” he commanded, and the guards stood back, looking at one another. “Did I stutter? Leave us!” Osirus yelled again.
One guard dared to step closer. “Your Majesty, we are checking on the Princess. You don’t look well.” Osirus was about to put me down to take care of the problem until I spoke up.
“Please go. I’m fine.”
I waved one hand in front of our bodies. “He needs to mark me,” I whisper-yelled, and both stood back. Taking a bow, they walked backward to watch what Osirus would do.
Osirus’s cape fell to the ground as he untied it, and I gripped my arms around his neck. His wings exploded from his body and with one leap, he had us flying into the air. Where we were going, I wasn’t sure, but I knew one thing: he needed to mark me today.
Chapter Forty-Three
Melina
Ididn’tknowgenuinefear until today. As Osirus leaped into the air, I held my breath, fearing that if I let go, I would fall to the ground. It was an irrational thought, but what other control did I have? Osirus was acting like a whole other being. My sweet and gentle mate had become a possessive man with wings of fury.
“Osirus!” I squealed as he continued to rise into the sky. From what I gathered; we were heading northwest, away from the sea into a land I had never been to before. Osirus looked down at me and smiled gently. All his fury had washed away and kissed me gently on the forehead.
“I’m taking you on our date. It’s overdue,” he rasped, trying to keep his calm. He must have read my aura that I was completely petrified, not just of being in the air, but of his change of behavior. I kept silent, watching over the land below me. The scenery and topography changed so quickly in Bergarian. You could be standing seaside, and when you went twenty miles inland, you could be in the valley of the mountains.
No matter what part of the land we were in, Bergarian was stunning. From the flows trees to the mystical lakes all the way down to the dark forests to the south. The land was magical and, in some ways, deadly. I didn’t know the extent of the danger of Bergarian, but I was sure it was more deadly than Earth. If the supernatural beings were strong, who knew what wild animals one had to look out for?
Osirus gripped me tighter as he descended halfway up the foothills of the mountains. Luscious trees canopied the forest floor, so no one from towering heights could peek. One tree stood out among the rest, with a small cabin in its branches. From the outside, it looked worn down and nothing to be worth exploring, but Osirus landed on its porch that stuck out on a large limb.
The planks of wood were unbalanced where the tree had taken over and moss started growing on the sides of the small treehouse. “You aren’t going to chop me up into little pieces now that I am alone, are you?” I joked lightly as I nudged his arm. Osirus slid his arm around my waist and planted a kiss on my lips.
Silent treatment, nice.
Osirus opened the rickety door, only to be met with a burst of light coming from the room. The room was in sharp comparison to the house outside. It was pristine. The walls were painted white. There was a skylight above us, so one could easily look at the stars. A large mattress with many fresh blankets and fabrics with colors I’ve never seen before all laid to perfection. Pinks, purples, blues, and greens. It was done so one would think you stumbled into a gypsy’s hideaway.
