“All to be nothing but a whore,” I spat. This should have been a done deal years ago; now all of it will go down the drain. “Raised beside the King to be a friend, how many damn years did I spend on you? You are as worthless as your mother was in bed!” I threw the closest thing that was next to me, the family picture frame of Daphne’s birth.

Daphne’s mother was nothing but a pawn to get into the Court. I had bribed her father with gold, jewels, and information on the whereabouts of his own true mate, and he gave her to me willingly. Once he had his true mate, he was gone. Marriage to Daphne’s mother gave me the title I had always dreamed of, being part of the Fae Court. Since it had been established, it had grown from a tiny seed to a beautiful garden of just the fae people. No pixies, fairies, whisps. Only the true and elite fae would be able to run the country. We were the perfected species.

Daphne screamed at the frame, falling to the ground and breaking into a thousand pieces. She loved her mother, she still did, but her mother went crazy once Daphne was seven years old. Elaine craved her mate. She was such a docile fae and did what she was told until the day she could no longer handle my firm hand.

She cracked, refused to eat or drink, and now she was at the Institute of the Mateless, a waste of tax payer’s money.Just let them kill themselves and be over with it.It would be the first place to go once Daphne’s place on the throne was solidified.

“You listen here, Daphne. If you want your mother to remain alive, you fix this. You get that weakling human out of the Golden Light Kingdom at all costs. The quicker, the better. There is something brewing, and I can feel it deep within my gut.”

Daphne smirked and crossed her arms. “You sure it isn’t all the alcoholic nectar you are drinking? It could just be gas.” I turned to slap her, but she pulled up her finger to wave it in my face. “Nuh-uh, you can’t mar this pretty skin if you want Osirus to have it.”

I growled at her. She was right. I couldn’t lay a finger on her; she was supposed to be my perfect daughter. Running my hand through my dark hair, I slapped the table.

“What are your plans, Daphne?”

Looking back up at me, she shows a devilish smirk. “Well, I have a plan B since I figured something was going on with this human the first time I met her. There is a wolf that has had his eyes on her for quite some time. He came to the palace only a few days after she arrived, demanding to see her. He’s chained up in the basement.” Daphne rubbed her hands together and smirked.

Rubbing my thumb along my lip, I nod my head. “Show me.”

Melina

After Osirus’s training sessions in the morning, he had several meetings to attend. Once it was announced that I was his destined mate, I had to look the part. Peoni and Primrose were in their grown form, helping me get ready in the dress Osirus laid out for me.

A gorgeous purple with small pearls decorating the hemming. It was simple and elegant, something in my wildest dreams I had never thought I would wear one day. Primrose curled my hair and let it fall loosely behind my back. A small chain with a pink, teardrop shape diamond lay on my neck. It was beautiful, but not as beautiful as Osirus.

Swoon!

A large breath was blown out behind me, and I immediately knew it was Osirus. “Darling, you look gorgeous.” He kissed my cheek. His attire was quite like what he usually wore to his meetings. A sharp-looking suit that made him look so much like the King he was. However, it was a deeper purple, matching my dress.

Aww, how cheesy, we match.

I giggled at him, and he gave me a questioning look, but I waved him off. Osirus led me down the corner, my arm in the crook of his, and led me to the throne room. Since he ran out the day before, he had to finish speaking with those he was unable to. The guilt turned in my stomach, but he immediately squeezed my hand and shook his head.

Now that I wasn’t hiding behind the throne, I could see the full throne room in all its glory. The massive room was both tall and wide, able to hold thousands of people. There was not one, but five chandeliers in place. No chairs were set up in the room, but there were benches that were near the tall windows that reached the skylights. Groups of people gathered in different corners of the room with a paper in their hands, taking notes and questioning each other.

“These people are from outlying towns and territories of the Golden Light Kingdom. They come for either help, requests, or just to give me their reports for the past month.” I nodded slowly, and he led me to the throne. I was expecting a chair beside him so that I could sit, but that wasn’t the case. He picked me up and had me sit on his knee like a child.

“I don’t think I like this,” I side-eyed him.

“Behave, you are mine, and I’ll let everyone know it.”

“I’m not a child,” I whisper-yelled.

“No, but you can be punished like one.” He nipped at my ear as I giggled. This giggling had to stop.

Cosmo stood in front of the stairs leading up to the throne and cleared his throat. I didn’t like this guy one bit. He was rude and pushy, and the overall cocky attitude was a turnoff.

“Your Majesty, if it is your will, I ask we conduct today’s meeting promptly.”

Osirus waved his hand, and Alaneo stepped forward. Alaneo was becoming a sneaky stalker for Osirus. I hoped he hadn’t heard anything from our bedroom. “Attention, we will now begin today’s proceedings. We will resume with the Dayfeather tribe.” Fairies flew up to the bottom steps of the throne. They were so far away that I could hardly see their faces, but the three had specific colors that stood out. The male wore blue and black, while the other two females wore pinks and oranges.

“Your Majesty.” The male in blue bowed. “We bring our Fairy Count census for the year. We also request aide for your protection.” Osirus waved his hand for him to continue while another servant took their census. “We have been troubled with macklebees.” Osirus rubbed his brow and was about to speak before Cosmo broke the silence.

“Macklebees are none of our concern or are worth fighting off. They are insects, not a large animal or supernatural that can cause actual damage,” Cosmo spoke condescendingly.

“What are Macklebees?” I whispered to Alaneo.

“There are bees about the size of fairies, nasty little buggers that pack a punch when they sting. They can kill fairies instantly.” My fists tightened. Cosmo just wanted the fairies to suffer like that?
