Peoni flew up behind me and sat on my shoulder. “Damn, he is one fine specimen. If I wasn’t banging Alaneo, I’d try to get up on that.” She waved her finger around and stuck it in her mouth.

“Excuse me, but he is my mate!” I pushed her off my shoulder.

“A fairy can look. And, hon, you need to make up your mind, or some other fae is going to come in and grab that fine piece of ass.”

I rolled my eyes and grabbed my olive green cloak that matched Osirus’s color of the day. “You remind me of my friend Tulip, a piece of work.”

Peoni tinkled a laugh and woke up Primrose, who was sleeping on the bed. “He sure worked you yesterday. All that hand-to-butt slapping was turning me on, and I wasn’t even in the room!” I gasped as my face turned tomato red.

“You heard that!?” I yelled.

Peoni and Primrose began laughing.

“Fuck, cum for me, baby!” Primrose mocked in a deeper voice while Peoni squealed, “Oh, I’m cumming!” as she faked fainting.

My entire body turned red as I locked the door to the bathroom. The laughs and the catcalls coming from the other side of the door were deafening. How could they hear all that?!

“Melina, dear! The guards are here! Come on, so we can get to the marketplace before it gets too crowded,” Peoni sang.

“No! I can’t face you any longer! I have never been so embarrassed!”

Primrose came closer to the door and whispered into the keyhole, “Fine, I’ll go tell the red-bearded brothers of your frolic in the punishment department!”

I quickly opened the door, face still red and a few tears hiding behind my eyes. “How. Did. You. Hear?” I spat my words out.

“We just want to be the first to know when you are bonded. Gossip runs wild around here and, being the first to spread, it is high status to us,” Primrose giggled. “Don’t worry, we won’t do it again. His Majesty felt our aura and scolded us.” I let out a frustrated sigh and grabbed the bag of coins that Osirus gave me and met Everett, Finley, and Braxton in the living room.

“Aight, lass, you ready?” Finley spoke as he took my bag. All three of them were dressed in regular clothes, no royal uniforms or emblems of any kind. “His Majesty wants to keep a low profile. I will stand beside you while my brothers keep a lookout on other sides.” I skipped toward them, understanding, and we headed out the door.

After dodging a few royals behind the palace, they led me to a door that opened straight into the marketplace. It was already busy for it being so early, and food vendors around every corner. There were many foods I recognized but many that I did not. Finley tried to tell me what animals they were, but I stood there frozen, not understanding what animal, fruit, or vegetable he was talking about.

Once we passed the market’s food section, we came upon trinkets, clothing, jewelry, and even animals up for sale as pets. Finley kept trying to get me to look at the jewelry, but I continued to walk, not interested. I’ve never owned a piece of jewelry my entire life, and I wasn’t really wanting to start now.

Many foxes in an assortment of colors caught my eye, and I instantly fell in love with a white one with light blue tips on its ears and feet.

“That there is a Frost Fairy fox.”

The fox gazed up at me sadly through the bars of the cage. The poor thing appeared so lonely. I petted his head in sympathy as it nuzzled into my hand. This wasn’t the normal fox you would see on Earth. This one had several tails behind it and was about the size of a raccoon.

“They get larger,” Finley spoke as he gave it a nut to eat. “When captured, they purposely put them in a small space, and the fox shrinks to a comfortable size.

“That’s awful,” I whined. I wondered if Osirus would let me get a pet. I’d never had one before, not unless you counted Tulip as my wolf pet. Snickering to myself, I continued patting the poor thing’s head.

Yelling on the other side of the market grabbed my attention. A small boy and a food vendor holding onto his arm. The boy was crying for him to let go, but the food vendor ripped the large loaf of bread out of his hand and continued to scold him.

“I’ve told you how many times to stop stealing from me! I’m having you arrested!” the fae sneered.

“Please, sir, I’m sorry. My sister and I are just hungry!”

The man growled, “I don’t care. Half the kingdom is starved. I will get paid!” He pushed him to the ground as guards walked up with their hands on their swords. “This boy tried to steal from me!”

The young child was about five years old, dirty face, hands, and clothes. He was alone and had no one to stand up to him. Finley was talking to the pet vendor, so I grabbed my coin bag quickly and ran up, and stood in front of the boy.

“I’m sorry. I forgot to give him some money. Will you please accept this for the misunderstanding?” The sign said one penny, so I grabbed the smallest coins that had “penny” written across them. “Here, double the price for the trouble.” I kept my head down, and the bread maker swiped the money out of my hand.

“I guess this will do.” He scoffed. “Don’t let me catch you around here again.” The man walked off as some of the guards looked at me warily.

“Who are you?” one of them spoke cautiously. “Are you new here?”
