“When I fall in love with you.” I smiled shyly.

Osirus smiled widely, mischief swirling on his face. “Challenge accepted, darling.”

Osirus had me wear one dress that was made for me by the royal seamstress. They had gotten my measurements from Maxine back at the Crimson Shadows Pack and had already made me dozens of dresses. I told Osirus I didn’t need that many, but of course, he didn’t listen.

I explained to him, however, I did like to wear pants every now and again so I could get them messy. After riding Montu a few days ago, I fell in love with the idea of going horseback riding. All Osirus kept telling me was “soon” I could go riding again.

Osirus had his arm held out as we walked down the corridor to the dining room. Osirus wanted to have our dinner in our room originally, but I hadn’t even seen half the castle and was curious who all lived here and other rooms that were mostly empty.

Servants, tons of servants, lived here. Most of the Court that Osirus spoke of lived in their own homes surrounding the palace in the capital but often came to the palace to use the library, genealogy room, and a room specifically for the elders of his kingdom.

“They are currently working on our mating ceremony,” he muttered.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“Just in case you say yes.” He gave a small smile. “You are human, and I am unaware of what could happen once we are mated. There has never been a fae and human bonding written within the last fifteen hundred years. They are scouring the history books to see what we may have to prepare for.”

“Prepare for?”

“Consider this—with werewolves, which have more common pairings with humans recently, humans can be ‘changed’ into werewolves themselves.”

I let out a long “Oh” in realization.

“Right.” Ge sighed. “With fae, I’m not sure what will happen to you. You could remain human, or you could turn into one of us. If you turn into a fae, you could be asleep for days and will need special care until you wake up.” The thought of turning into a fae was rather exciting. I would be looked on as one of them, not an outsider, and maybe more fit to rule a kingdom. Those thoughts had gone through my mind in the carriage just the day before. A human in a fae world?

“That would be amazing if I turned into a fae!” I said eagerly.

Osirus gave a grin while he snaked his hand around my waist.

“If only you guys could fly, that would make it outstanding!” I squealed.

Osirus stopped in his tracks and stared off into the distance.

“What’s wrong?” I tilted my head.

Osirus looked down at me and tucked some of his hair behind his ear. “We have wings, darling.” He gave a solemn frown.

My eyes lit up. “Really! Why don’t you fly? I would fly everywhere! I don’t think I would ever walk!”

Osirus chuckled and held my arm again in his. “Darling, remember when I said that the fae repress certain emotions and transformations?”

I nodded enthusiastically until the realization dawned on me.

“They hold back their wings. They don’t fly.”

Disappointment in my heart left me feeling empty. “That’s so sad.” Osirus hummed in agreement.

“We will make it right.” He patted my hand. “Soon, everything will change. With change, things take time, and the least amount of lives lost would be for the better.”

I acknowledged as we continued to walk down the hallway.

“Your wings, though...?” I asked. I had seen his muscular back before, but there were no wings. How does he hide them?

“Ha.” He laughed. “Fae can hide their wings, unlike the pixies and fairies. They can come out when I will them to or under aggression or heightened sexual arousal.”

I blushed, thinking of them flying out during something exciting.

“Calm yourself, little one, or I’ll take you into my office over my desk.” Osirus’s look became dark, and I straightened my posture quickly.
