“Who are you to say that your king doesn’t fulfill his duties?” I rose from my seat. The aura he was spilling was fear, but his face remained stoic. I knew he wanted my crown. He wanted it when my father had it, but I would make sure he would rot in the grave this time.

I pulled the magic within my body and let it seep through my fingertips. The anger and fury I felt were indescribable. My fangs descended, and there were gasps within the room. My fangs made them terrified but more so as my ears elongated. Since meeting Melina, she told me she wasn’t afraid of my true form, and that every fae should embrace it, even more so when protecting a mate or our kingdom.

Cosmo stood back in shock. “Your M-Majesty! What is the meaning of this!” he screamed while only a few others yelled in agreement. I stood on the desk and jumped down in front of him. My claws grew as I approached him and grabbed his neck.

“I will bring forth my mate when I am ready and not earlier,” I growled. “Do not tempt me in using my instincts and killing you now.” I pulled Cosmo closer and whispered in his ear, “I know what you are doing, and trust me, I will stop you.” I dropped him to the floor and walked out of the room.

I could hear Cosmo’s mistress run to him to help him up, but he just took his arm away from her.

“That went well,” Alaneo joked as he jogged to my side. “And what do you think that accomplished?”

I stopped in my tracks and faced Alaneo. “I have no control when it comes to my mate’s safety. Exposing her now would only endanger and overwhelm her. I can’t lose her.” I started walking again but felt a small tap hit my chest.

“Your Majesty!” It was Peoni, one fairy that I had looked over Melina in case she woke up.

“Is Melina all right?” I asked, concerned.

“Oh, yes, yes! She said, however, if you do not come back into the room in an hour, she will leave and go back to her cabin with the wolves, though.”

I groaned while she laughed.

“Hi, Alaneo,” Peoni flirtatiously said while adjusting her breasts.

Alaneo only bowed at her and winked before she giggled and flew away.

“Your mate is feisty, huh?” Alaneo said, amused.

“I wouldn’t want it any different. She challenges me in things other women wouldn’t.” Alaneo laughed as I headed back to our room.

Without knocking, I walked into the room to see a very flustered Melina with Primrose sitting on the bed. Melina’s eyes didn’t look at me with love. No, she had nothing but confusion and hurt in her eyes.

“Darling, what is wrong? I’m sorry it took so long to come back.” I rushed to her side and put my arm around her. She continued to be stiff. My hand cupped her cheek, and for the first time, I felt a tear come from her eyes. She had been strong for so long, and now I finally see her break.

“Darling, talk to me,” I whispered.

The next thing I knew, she pulled up a set of handcuffs beside her lap and dropped them in my lap.Oh shit.

“Leave,” I told Primrose and Peoni, who had followed me in. Both cowered at my tone and flew out a nearby window.

“What are these, Osirus?” Her voice cracked.

My heart wanted to pick her up and bury her face in my neck, to comfort her and show her that everything was all right. Things were not all right for her, and she felt betrayed. I kept silent, trying to gather my words.

“Are you going to force me to stay here, to mark me? Are you going to tie me to the bed while you have sex with me?” Her voice grew higher with each word.

“Darling, please let me explain,” I begged.

Looking into my eyes, she stood up, walked across the room, and sat in a decorative chair.

“Explain from there. When you are close to me, I forgive you too easily.”

Damn, she was smart. She was trying to go around our bond to make sure she was making the right decisions. She would be the perfect Queen if she would have me.

“As I have said before, I would never force you to mate with me. I would never take your freedom like that. I want you to love me with your own heart. These things”—I waved to the handcuffs, the ties, and several other items in the drawer—“are ways to make intimacy more enjoyable. We don’t even have to make love to use them. It is just a way to put a twist on pleasure and make it more exciting.”

Her head tilted in confusion. My heart skipped a beat, excited that she wanted to know more.

“This”—I held up a blindfold—“will take away your sight, so your other senses are heightened. You will feel my touch a little bit stronger, the excitement of where my hands will be next.”
