My mouth dropped. “Who said I was going anywhere?! I don’t know you. I can’t just go ride off to some kingdom. I came here with Tulip, Rose, and Elm. I can’t leave them!” I threw my hands in the air. “You can’t tell me what to do. You are not the boss, king, mate, or whatever you are to me. I am my own person and can decide for myself, and I am not going!” I stomped my foot for beneficial effect.
Alaneo snorted and gave a good pat on Osirus’s shoulder while Osirus looked dumbfounded. Didn’t anyone tell this guy, ‘No?’
“Good luck, Osirus. I’m glad I’m not you.”
Alaneo gave a smirk after I stuck my tongue out at him. I don’t care if he was dangerous with that dagger he was waving around earlier. I didn’t need his comments.
Osirus strolled up to me. If we were the same height, we would be nose to nose, but my nose only came up about mid-chest. “Darling, remember, you are my mate, and you will come back with me. I’m trying to be patient, but this attitude of yours is quite irritating.”
“Why? Because I don’t bow at everything you say?” I snapped.
Osirus grinned and took a step closer to me. In turn, I took a step back. He towered over me, and the glow of the room was fading as I retreated to the far corner. There was nowhere else to go as my back felt the rough surface of the logged walls. One of his hands came up on one side of my head and then the other. His head dipped down, and his nose traced the underside of my jaw. His breath was hot, and I put my hands up to push his chest away, which was futile because he was too strong.
“I meant what I said, darling.” His lips tickled my neck, and I felt an odd sensation in the lower part of my belly. This darn zoo in my stomach was going to kill me. “I will bend you over and spank you until you thank me for it if you won’t be a good little girl and listen,” he huskily whispered in my ear. “I won’t tolerate bratty behavior.”
Chapter Twelve
Melina
AllnightIhadlaid in the bed with my back to Osirus. The morning light was coming into the room, only reminding me I would tell Tulip and her family goodbye and be taken to a kingdom I had never heard of until a few days ago. My heart ached knowing I wouldn’t be going back with Elm and Rose; they were all I had left, and now I really had nothing. Even though this King said that I was his and he was mine, I couldn’t help but feel doubt in my heart.
He wanted to love me and care for me, but all that good intention could also bring great pain. My parents had good intentions of keeping me and turning their relationship into a marriage that would hopefully be a happily ever after, but we all know how that turned out. Me, alone, abandoned and unwanted by my very own parents.
Last night, I had little strength to argue anymore. Osirus told me to get ready for bed, and for once, I listened and did what I was told. The enormous bathroom was easily five times the size of my own bathroom back in my cabin. The tub was large and lavish and held many oils and soaps. Sitting there all night looked like a great idea, but the emotional rollercoaster I was on just wanted me to get into bed.
I put on my baby pink shorts with a matching camisole. If I had known I was going to have another man sleep in the same room as me, I would have brought better nightwear that covered my entire body.
Osirus was already in bed, with no shirt, and reading some papers in his hand. One hand reached behind his neck, which showed the stretching of his muscles. He was not built like a werewolf with big and scary large muscles all over; he was leaner, with muscles encompassing his entire body. His skin was pale, and not an inch of a scar or freckle on his torso. I gulped and kept my eyes on the ground as I hopped into bed.
I brought up the massive number of pillows on the side of the bed, and I built a massive pillow wall between us.
“What do you think you are doing?” Osirus smirked as he put his papers on the nightstand.
“Creating a wall so you don’t come to my side in the middle of the night.” I put one last pillow that caused me to have to really sit up and look over. “Goodnight,” I said sternly and quickly covered myself.
He was making me sleep in the same bed as him, a man I had only known for a few hours. How scandalous is this?!
I never went to sleep, and I think he knew it. I could hear and feel him tossing and turning all night. Sometimes mumbling something, probably cursing me because I wouldn’t let him near me. I’m sure I would have slept better if I had my stuffed wolf. I didn’t think I’d ever slept without him until then.
Goddess, I’m such a child sometimes. My eyes finally grew heavy with the morning rays coming into the room. I felt warmth encompass me, and I finally drifted off to sleep after six hours of fighting it all.
The next time I woke, the sun was high in the sky, and we had obviously missed our window of leaving, remembering what Alaneo said about the horses being ready at dawn. Blinking a few times and trying to sit up, I realized I was restrained. Glancing behind me, I saw Osirus in a deep sleep. I should be angry with him for holding me like this, but I had a feeling he could sleep too since we were closer.
His face was so perfect, not a pore to be seen. Osirus was chiseled from marble itself. His lashes weren’t black, but brown with hints of gold. His ears, which I had never concentrated on before, were, in fact, pointed just like I thought a fae’s might be. The hair that fell between us was stark white and soft to the touch.
Being this close should certainly have bothered me, but it didn’t. The sparks continued to flow freely between us, but instead of feeling the intensity of it yesterday and the comparison of today, it felt more natural. It felt like it should have been there all along.
A bond like this shouldn’t happen so quickly, right? When humans fall in love, it takes months, if not years, and even then, that love isn’t certain. Taking my hand, I cupped the side of his face, which he only leaned into. I smiled at how he reacted to just a little touch, even in his unconsciousness.
“Are you all right, darling?” his rough voice said as he opened his eyes. “I was afraid you might be sore with me doing this, but I feel that we both slept better, didn’t we?” I nodded my head in agreement, a bit shocked he was awake with me staring him in the face.
“This is what a bond does, makes us more comfortable with each other, to help us trust one another. I know you don’t trust me and are uncertain. We will take our time. Just don’t fight it.”
I hummed in agreement, blushing a bit. Osirus gave me a kiss on the forehead and got up from the bed. He was wearing a type of jogger made of light material that hung dangerously low. Spinning my head, I covered up, realizing what little I was wearing.
“Get dressed, darling. I’ll go to another room.” Within minutes, he was gone to leave me to my own devices.
The smell of baked goods filled the large cabin as I walked down the stairs. A large table spread of cheeses, fruit, croissants, pancakes, sausage, and several other items on the table I didn’t know had been displayed expertly on the table. “I wasn’t sure what you wanted, so I got a bit of everything,” Osirus said behind me, which caused me to jump. Both his hands landed on my shoulders, and he guided me to the table.
