“I was hoping both.” I cringed internally. The thought of anyone other than my mate made me physically sick. They kept walking toward me, whispering to each other when I realized this was as far as I could go to get them away from the cave. I started humming, thinking of having them fall asleep just beside the cave making no noise.
“What a pretty melody.” One yawned as they continued closer. It wasn’t strong enough. I would have to actually sing something, but my mind was shot. No lyrics were coming to me, so I did the next best thing I had dubbed the “Ariel.” My mind went to the scene where she sang to allow the evil witch Ursula to steal her voice. Concentrating on the melody and having them be lulled to sleep, it started working. They both sat beside the cave, leaning on each other. Both of them curled up like babies, and once their breaths evened out, I sprinted to the mouth of the cave.
The light was still swaying back and forth; this was a deep cave. Horus would sleep, so I started screaming for him to wake up. “Horus! You are in danger! Wake up!!” I yelled as I sprinted on the jagged rocks.
There was a growl and a high-pitched scream from the other warlock as I heard a loud snap. The ground below me rumbled as I felt the heavy breaths of Horus ascending the cave. Running back out into the light, Horus stood tall in all his glory. His scales shined as a drip of blood left his lips.
“D-did you eat him?” I cried, not really wanting to know the answer. Horus gave a stiff nod and took his snake-like tongue to clean up the mess. Gagging a bit, I shook my head and came back to the real reason for what we needed to do. Get Osirus.
“Horus, Osirus is in trouble. The Blood Coven is hidden, and I don’t know where they are, but he needs help.” Horus huffed and crouched down so I could mount. Then, gripping ahold of his horns, I stiffened and remembered that the witches wanted his blood.
“You can’t get hurt, Horus. The witches want your blood to make their magic stronger…” Before I could finish, Horus reared back his head and gave a laugh. A dang laugh. This dragon was laughing at me. He shook his head and jumped in midair as we flew through the sky.
I had no clue where I was going, but Horus sure did. He was in the air with three large flaps with his wings, high above the trees. The trees around the palace became small as the trees up ahead were taller than the palace. What fun it would be to run through that forest!
Howling came from up ahead as I saw wolves falling out of a brick wall; there must be a spell barricading them in. Horus huffed at me as if he knew what I thought as he dove closer to the ground. His feet landed with a thump, leaving large claw indentions in the dirt.
“Your Majesty!” I sat up straight as one of Osirus’s warriors appeared from the fence. “You shouldn’t be here. His Majesty—” I put my hand up like Osirus did when he wanted people to shut up.
“Your King isn’t here, is he? I am, so where are they? What’s going on?” I clipped.
“T-they are inside. There is a spell blocking healing abilities, and everyone will be slaughtered!” I nodded my head as Horus looked behind himself, giving me a wink. He wanted in, and he wanted to steal the show.
“Get back in there and get everyone out. We are coming in, and Horus will torch the place.” The warrior fell to the ground before launching himself back into the wall. Backing up, Horus took a running start and dove through the barrier. Horus’s roar was so loud it shook the walls of the fake castle they had made. The bricks crumbled as everyone stared at the massive dragon before them.
Looking at the half-wolf, half-human beast in front of me, I instantly knew it was Alpha Kane. They said he was terrifying, and no doubt my once brave face held worry. Kane growled for an answer while everyone started running away from Horus. “We’re gonna torch it. Get everyone out.” I didn’t yell, but I didn’t have to because of Kane’s incredible hearing.
The warrior I had sent in had gathered up the rest of Osirus’s warriors as Horus began shaking the ground with the stomps of his caws. His wings flapped, hitting several warlocks to the ground, and guarding the door. The vibrations from Horus’s throat let me know something was coming from it, and it was going to be big. Kane looked my way once before I threw a thumbs up and Horus let out his grunty breath.
Flames seared the entire walls. Warlocks were screaming, several still on fire as they tried to leave through the exit. Horus chomped on several warlocks, blood smearing the cobblestone pathway. No one was getting out alive in this secret hideaway. The fire had already consumed the drapes, tables, and furniture laid out recklessly. Bodies were charred and left lifeless on the floor. It reminded me of the movieKill Billwhen she took on almost the entire restaurant of assassins. Except I wasn’t bloody and had a dragon instead of a sword.
My scene was better.
Horus puffed out his chest, happy with the result, until I heard footsteps coming from behind us. A sizable crowd entered, and Horus didn’t seem worried. My father and my brothers, minus Lucca, came marching in with their tridents and swords. My father took one look at me and let out a sigh of relief.
“Look, Dad! I’m riding a dragon!” My father rolled his eyes as he stuck his trident into the ground and took off his armored gloves.
“Hey, at least she isn’t riding Osirus,” one of my brothers jeered while my father smacked up upside the head.
“Owie.”
Horus walked forward, sniffing, and putting his head near a basement door or what was left of a door. A large, charred opening was left. I dismounted and felt my heart pull to the bottom of the basement. It was dark, dreary, and thankfully dry since Horus’s flames went halfway down. Still, I wasn’t going down there. I’ve watched too many horror movies, and that is where you end up dead.
“Hey!” I yelled down to the basement. “Come out, you dumb bitch, and give me my mate!” I smiled triumphantly at my fantastic Joan Of Arc words while my father shook his head.
“Princesses don’t cuss,” he grumbled as he pulled me away from the entryway.
“Well, good, because I’m not a princess. I’m a damn queen!”
“Right on!” one brother replied and gave me a high five.
One set of footsteps came up the stairs; the light cast a shadow so no one could see who it was. I did, though. My heart palpated as Osirus emerged from the depths of the basement. Dried blood was on his tunic, and his skin was no longer white but a light tan with his black wings. His black obsidian eyes glared into the sun until he looked at me.
I hope he isn’t mad that I saved his butt. His eyes lightened instantly, and his dark wings and skin vanished. He ran up to me and engulfed me in an enormous hug. “My darling, what did I tell you!” he cried as he buried his face in my neck.
“To behave?” I whispered.
“And you didn’t,” he growled.
