“Good, because they are in a heap of trouble, and the entire coven is going to be wiped from the entire face of Bergarian,” Osirus stated.
Chapter Sixty-Five
Osirus
“No,Osirus,I’mcomingtoo!” Melina had not stopped whining since coming back from our planning meeting yesterday.
Opal was to come with me as we traveled to Progronie Creek. The warriors we were bringing would not be small in numbers. The cloaking spells of Opal’s witching friends said their cloaking spell was strong enough to hold one hundred warriors. The witches laughed at how the Blood Coven wouldn’t see us coming until it was too late. I dared not ask how they could accomplish this large spell as they snickered, poking and prodding each other.
I don’t want or need to know how they have a spell more potent than another coven. I needed to know it would work. Daphne and Tulip were the only people who would see Opal and me. Girard and Elaine were to stay back at the palace to monitor Melina because I knew my mate was as stubborn as a mule. She would try to evade the Red Fury and fly to make sure Daphne didn’t take hold of me. No spell could keep me from my mate, and I would make sure of it.
However, if our roles were reversed, I would do the same. I was doing my job protecting my mate and my kingdom, and if I had to handcuff her to the bed, I would, her father in the room or not.
Alaneo was also coming, leaving his mate Juliet behind. The wounds were too fresh for Juliet as much as she wanted to help. During the few days that Alaneo and Juliet bonded, Juliet would often wake up in a cold sweat, fearing that the coven leader, Prinna, was coming to take more samples of her blood.
Blood of any race would help reach a higher potency level in potions, spells, and curses. Vampire blood was among the weakest to use, but anything to increase their power would do. No race was to give witches their blood unless cleared with a royal, and obviously, the Blood Coven was not following that protocol.
In my short time with Juliet and Melina, we learned of specific spells they were trying to cast. Some were simple, like regenerating food, but their spiritual power dwindled quickly once it was used. Vampire blood helped replenish their spirits to continue to cast at a higher rate.
Some spells were more complicated; they would need the most potent blood of all: dragon blood. The dragons had long left besides Horus, who was too powerful to get to, so the shifter dragons were the next best thing. The most extensive spell they were trying to cast was that of dimension trans teleportation. Instead of using the heavily guarded portals, they were trying to make their own. For what, Juliet wasn’t sure.
Daphne was only playing a minor role when it came to all of this, but her puny mind couldn’t see through it. They would give her the throne, but it would only be for show. Once she was decreed as a queen, the dragon shifters were no longer protected under our joint alliance with the Cerulean Moon Kingdom, and they would be able to overthrow the dragons. Numbers mattered in this war, and they were not expecting the Golden Light Kingdom and the Cerulean Moon Kingdom to come together just a month ago.
Melina rolled her eyes again as she sat cross-legged on the bed. I had just put on my battle armor in our room. She eyed me up and down several times, and it was all I could do to keep the smirk on my face away from her. My cock twitched a bit, knowing that she liked how I looked. She still wanted me even with all the lovemaking we had been doing.
Curse the Gods that I had to wait. It would only make our binding ceremony that much of a thrill once I took her to bed.
“Please, Osirus, let me go!”
“I’ve told you no. If there are other Blood Coven members present, they will smell you. They have blood-hunting warlocks in their coven and would pick you out right away and give away the surprise. You would put everyone in danger!” I sternly told her, as she immediately crouched back.
“I’m sorry I yelled.”
I came and sat on the bed and pulled her face to mine. I knew all of this was too much, but what could I do? This had to be done swiftly, so she was safe during the coronation. “If all goes well, this will be put behind us, and Tulip will be here with you. Alec is coming and will be sure she will come home.”
“But what about you?” Her eyes softened. “I can’t lose you. Especially to her.” We grabbed each other, and I kissed her cheek.
“I always come back. There hasn’t been a battle or spar I haven’t won. I will come back to you.”
“You better!” She pushed me on the shoulder. I didn’t budge. “You got me all hyped up being with you forever; you can’t go breaking promises now.” I tackled her to the bed, my sword poking her side, and I don’t mean the one I was used to battling evil entities with.
Montu trotted alongside Opal and her mare, Apples. The orphanage had one horse to travel within case a child needed medical attention. Being worried at first about the small mare and lack of strength, I was surprised it kept up with Montu well. Both the horses looked at one another, and I couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
“What?” Opal looked at me, dazed. She was still tired, no doubt from ridding herself of the spell she had cast on her for years. Finley wouldn’t leave her side and was walking alongside her in the cloaking spell. Often, Opal would jerk her hand and give small little bits of laughter. If it weren’t for Finley walking alongside her, I would have thought she went crazy.
“Our horses, I believe they have struck a bit of liking to each other.” Montu snorted and bobbed his head while Opal laughed.
“I believe they have, haven’t you, Apples?” She groaned in agreement as we carried on.
The creek was a reasonable distance from the palace and closer to the Blood Coven’s territory. The Golden Light Kingdom went dark from view as we entered the Southern Forest that bordered the Dark Forest. An area that I had fought in not too long ago with rogues trying to steal Luna Clara’s healing abilities.
The trees that grew here were massive; one could not put their arms around a tree, it took over five men to reach around. Some trees that had died were hollowed out to make homes for Dark pixies and fae that preferred the darkness. Their own light generated enough for them to power themselves.
“I don’t like this place,” Opal spoke aloud. The warriors and several witches that were holding the spell crept behind us. The sounds of the stream were coming closer, and Opal fidgeted with the reigns.
The entire forest had a darkness that should not have been there. The leaves that branched over the sparsely spaced trees stretched wide, so even the floor was covered in darkness. No wandering Forest sprites or small animals were about gathering food. There also were no insects to be heard; something was wrong.
I raised my hand to signal to stop. Opal pulled at the reins and looked at me. “What’s wrong?” she whispered, eyeing the stream in front of us. Taking in the view, I scanned the area. There was no sign of Daphne or Tulip, and all was quiet except the stream.
