“Shh,” Osirus cooed. “It will be all right, I promise. We will win.” Petting my hair, I nodded into his chest.
Osirus had not once told me wrong, and he had always told me nothing but truths. The whirlwind I now called my life was beginning to be too much. There were days I wanted nothing more than to hide in the walls of my cabin, away from it all. The one night in the dragon territory was heaven. We slept, we loved each other and worshipped each other, but we were leaders. We had to save everyone, or at least forge a plan.
Why did people want power? It was a messy thing. Was it so wrong for people just to live their lives and love each other? They were all so blessed to have the Goddess give them mates and find their soul’s match. Humans would kill for such a thing. Why make it complicated with power and greed?
Elaine again stepped down from my father’s arms and came to the cage. “What is my son’s name? Where are they?” Elaine’s voice was more substantial than I ever knew possible. She radiated the anger, the contempt, the suffering in her voice. Cosmo’s eyes widened at the mighty strength that stood behind her words.
“I don’t know what Opal goes by, but the boy’s name is Cricket.” Cosmo groaned as his body now hit the floor, going unconscious.
Chapter Sixty-One
Alaneo
“Youaregoingtobe fine. Be sure to drink blood three times a day from a fresh source, preferably through your mate,” the on-call physician spoke as he packed up his bag.
The warriors we had taken to the borders of Vermillion had no luck finding the Blood Coven’s home. Juliet was already exhausted by the time she was done feeding, and dusk settled. We didn’t need to fight the dark as it wasn’t acceptable for us to wander around in the dark since our powers would weaken.
I held Juliet in my arms while Nyx continued to bark orders at the warriors. It was like he was back at his station as King, but most warriors welcomed it, enjoying the new personality that he had shone through. “Tomorrow, we look again. Rest up. We will start at first light.” The warriors flew off back to their homes to their own mates and families while I held onto Juliet. She wasn’t accustomed to flying, and her grip around my neck grew tight, but I savored the moment.
I had found my mate. When everyone else had found their forever, I had found mine. Juliet’s smile widened as her fangs shone with the setting sun while I held her close.
That was but a few hours ago, and now the doctor began his departure. I had stayed in the room the entire time, even though he was a mated fae himself. I understood how Osirus could be so obsessive with Melina in times like these. It was a sensitive time to establish a spiritual bond and a physical one, meaning being damn obsessive over her.
Gods, her holding onto me gave me a massive erection on the flight back to the palace. I needed a third hand just to help me tuck it away. Nyx constantly looked over, snickering at the situation that was causing me distress.
“Can I speak with you, Doctor?” The physician nodded as we both headed out the door. “Is she—”
“Yes, she can mate. Just know she will probably feed on you as your bond, which can make you weak for a few hours. Not that I think you would mind, though.” He winked as he walked away.
All right then.
I knocked on the door, a common courtesy, and Juliet sat up from the bed. I had given her one of my oversized shirts, and damn, it was the sexiest thing she could wear. Forget the lacy bras and underwear; just wear my shirt with nothing underneath.
Juliet blushed as she shoved her hands under her straightened legs. How can I be nervous? I’d seduced too many women to be anxious about this. But this was her. My everything and my damn mate. This was it. No more partying or looking for someone to satisfy my needs, and I couldn’t be happier.
“Um…” I scratched the back of my head. “This is my room, and I can sleep somewhere else if you don’t feel—”
“Alaneo?” Her sweet voice sang to me. “Please come lay with me.” My heart thudded in my chest, and my palms became sweaty. How brazen was she, my shy little rabbit only hours ago, now beckoning me to lie with her on the bed?
Ripping my tunic off my body, leaving on my trousers, I opened the blankets while scooping her into my side. Her raven hair fell on her cheek while I brushed it away. “My rose, I’m so glad to have found you.” Kissing her cheek, her head came closer to my lips so I wouldn’t let go.
“Me too. It was most welcome.” Her voice was a low whisper as her breath tickled my chest. Our lips were close, too close not to touch, but I was anxious.
The Alaneo, nervous. Who would have thought?
Before I made my move, she jerked up and claimed my lips. Her lips were hot as she pushed me down onto the mattress. My shy rose moved her lips feverously as I had now snapped out of my stupor. Juliet was ravishing.
Juliet became shy and stiff as my hands went to glide around her back and pulled her impossibly closer. She leaned back while I captured the side of her neck as she sighed and rolled onto her back. The short little pants had my dick twitching as her red eyes stared into mine.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me to jump you like that.” A small purr came from my chest as I cupped her face.
“Your animalistic side is hungry for blood and our bond has you itching to drink from me.” My heart soared thinking of her wanting me.
Like any other fae in primary school, I had spent my time learning the ways of each culture. More so as I took on as second-in-command as Osirus’s adviser. Vampires rarely visited the Golden Light Kingdom, but they had always fascinated me. Not only did a vampire crave their mate’s blood, but they also did sexually. Almost impossible to hold back when their mates were nearby. She was still young when she was captured. Juliet might not have learned this.
“Do you understand, my rose?” Her head tilted to the side, and she shook her head no. I didn’t want to spend my time explaining vampire anatomy, so I gave her the best advice I could give her. “Just follow your primal instincts…” I whispered. No anatomy lesson on how vampires mated. I would guide her and hope for the best. Thankfully, her eyes closed and leaned up toward me as I licked her lips so I could partake in the sweetest taste.
No ambrosia could compare to these sweet lips, and I couldn’t wait to try another set of lips as she became bolder. Her fang nicked my lip, which caused me to growl. I’d always had a kink for pain, and this could not have been a better match.
