“Tell them they are released, Melina,” Lucca continued to coach her as she watched in horror at the wolves and fae fighting. “Command them all!” Giving her a pat on the back, she stood up straight again. “You are released!” she yelled with authority, and the mutiny that was in the sitting room stopped. Wolves woke up from their hazed slumber, looking confused and dumbfounded.
“Why are we in here?” one of them spoke. Several shrugged their shoulders and went back whence they came. Not questioning any longer why the entire room was destroyed over my mate.
“What happened?” Melina whispered as she was swaying in my arms. Her eyes were closing, so I picked her up with one arm under her knees and one behind her back. Melina’s eyes rolled to the back of her head, and her head slumped over my bare chest.
“She compelled them. Sirens used to do it all the time a long time ago to kill off humans who ventured too close to the portal. She must not have had control of her mind. Usually, you have to will it in your mind for it to happen.” Then Lucca smiled as he pushed my shoulder. “Unless she wanted to seduce you.” He winked.
“My darling was drinking,” I said while I stroked the hair from her face. “This isn’t something she would normally do. She’s never even sang to me before this night. I’ve only caught her singing while she is all alone. Melina is normally too self-conscious to do what she did.”
“Drinking and singing compulsion is difficult to do. It’s like trying to ride your horse in a straight line while intoxicated. Melina drank or took something else that made her become sexually active,” Lucca spoke harshly as he ground his teeth together. At first, I didn’t trust Lucca, but he had become a brilliant brother to Melina. He was as pissed as I was because this would have been a disaster if she wasn’t fully awake enough to stop it.
“She’s only drunk with me. What about you?” Lucca questioned.
“Nothing, just the one drink from….” My eyes darted to Tulip across the room. I saw a face full of guilt as she cried into her mate’s arms.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Osirus
Luccaletoutalow growl as he realized the culprit. “Easy brother, we will deal with this accordingly,” I assured him while I nodded to Braxton and Everett to fetch the pair. Alaneo was waking up from his drunken stupor and was looking much better.
“What did I miss?” He rubbed down his face with one hand.
“A lot. Meet me in my chambers,” I ordered.
I carried Melina along with Finley, who was standing watch for any other unmated males that could follow, who did not hear her command. My tiny mate went from human to half-siren, and had many wolves and fae at her beck and call. They were trying to take her at first, but now that we knew she could command them and release them from the call, this could be used as a protective tactic later if the need arose.
My anger began to swell, thinking how careless her friend was. Gripping my mate tighter, she let out a whimper as she buried her head into my chest again. A smile graced my lips as we entered our living chambers and I sat down with her on my lap. Pulling a light blanket over her to make sure her skin wasn’t on show too much, Alec and Tulip were corralled into the room.
Alaneo sat beside me and put Melina’s feet on his lap. If I wasn’t so close to Alaneo as my brother, I would have ripped a new hole for him to breathe from, but he truly cared for Melina like a sister. Melina was sweating and shivering at the same time as I continued to pull her damp hair back from her face.
Lucca stormed into the room and slammed the door and got close to Tulip’s face. “Do you want to tell me what you gave her?” he roared as she cowered into her mate’s chest.
“Watch your tone, fae!” Alec growled out and shielded his mate.
“You just about caused a full-out war on the Cerulean Moon Kingdom if anything had happened to her! You know she is a princess of one of the most lethal armies of Bergarian!?”
Tulip sobbed again, and Alec stood stoic, trying to comfort his mate. “It was an accident, she didn’t mean any malice by it!” Alec replied.
“That’s enough, Lucca,” I commanded. “Tulip is Melina’s best friend. I’m sure there was a reason behind this behavior of hers.” I raised my brow at her while she nodded profusely.
“She said she was so nervous earlier about completing the mating and she didn’t want to do it with her father under the same roof because it made her anxious. I was trying to get her to loosen up! I didn’t know it would cause this much of a problem!”
“For a wolf, you sure are an idiot!” Lucca hissed. “You knew she was half-siren. She can seduce the entire room with her voice, did you not think?” Tulip couldn’t look anyone in the eye while she took her chastising.
Alec mouthed a quick apology to me, but I continued to glare at them both. Alec had no balls to deal with his mate. Might as well chop them off and place them on the mantel.
“She never sings!” Tulip cried. “I thought it would be okay!”
Alaneo sat his head back on the couch and mouthed a big, “Oh,” as he put the pieces of the puzzle together.
“I’m never drinking again. I missed too much.” Alaneo scoffed while Braxton slapped him on the back of the head.
“This is serious, you ass.” Melina stirred in my arms and tried clutching the sleeves to my tunic.
“What did you give her?” Not bothering to glance at the two idiots.
“A seduction potion,” she whispered. “There was a potion vendor in the marketplace earlier today.”
