“Ah ha, no, not a pickup line. It’s just that the guys and me here noticed your smell. It is unique.”
Tulip’s eyes went large, and she looked over at her mother for help. I kept my eyes peeled for this guy in the middle.
“Listen here. If you dare say anything about being my mate or some crazy supernatural crap like that, I’ll stick this fork in your wolf’s eye, pull it out, and make you eat it.” I stabbed my fork into an opposing blueberry and put it in my mouth, letting the juice dribble on the side.
“Damn,” the two other boys said in unison.
The wolf in the middle smirked. “Hi, I’m Carson.”
Chapter Six
Melina
“Warriors,huh?”Ispoke.
Carson nodded his head as he took a chunk of his steak and stuck it in his mouth. “We are the top three, meaning we are in the special forces. We can do secret missions for the royals, spying, fighting, tracking, you name it. In fact, we just did one a few months ago. Our team found our Luna in the rogue territory.”
“Yeah, we got so much pussy after that,” Rex, the guy on Carson’s left, said. The guy was decent looking too, cocky, just like most wolves, though. He had sun-bleached hair and a few tattoos on his arms.
“I’m guessing no mates for you guys yet, then?” I questioned.
All of them were silent until Carson spoke up. “Not yet. They are out there. When we find them, we’ll chase ‘em and mark ‘em just like they did in the old days.”
I gave a shocked look while Tulip giggled. Alec gave Tulip a wink while I just rolled my eyes. Something tells me Alec ran naked through the woods to pound Tulip into the dirt.
Most of the nice-looking guys I had met were horny wolves. I don’t even know why these wolves had mates; they were screwing anything with two legs. Then again, there could have been centaurs out there for all I knew; then it would be four legs. They were, however, more respectful after I told them their adulthood was at risk of being cut off later if they tried to touch me. Which they found hilarious, and they now wanted me to stay near them to protect me from other horny males.
“Being human gives you special privileges since you are weak,” Carson told me.
Gee, thanks?
“Are there a lot of missions? Do you go spy on some mermaids in the water, taking their tops off?” I jested.
Carson threw his head back and laughed. Other wolves looked over, and I couldn’t help but shrink a little.Keep comments to myself, duly noted. Once Carson had his fun, he went back to eating and never replied.
“Ew,” I whispered to Tulip.
Sean, the other wolf that was up Carson’s butt, was on the quiet side. He seemed nice and, most of all, tolerable. There were several times I caught him staring. Maybe the complete human being in a house full of wolves gave off an unpleasant smell. Before I could ask Sean what he thought about all of this man-whoring around, Esteban walked up, and he looked ticked.
“Melina, doll, how are you?” He gritted his teeth.
Esteban sat his plate next to mine and almost came arm-to-arm with me. I scooted over, which only made him scoot closer.
Sensing my distress, Carson glanced at Esteban. “Hey, pup, I think she wants some space.” Carson gave a deep growl, and Esteban only glared in return.
“I’ll do what I want, you glorified tracker.”
Carson stood up abruptly and puffed out his chest while Esteban followed. I’d never seen a brawl this close with werewolves, so I took it as my cue to leave. Elbowing Tulip, she took the hint and let me out of the seat.
“She’s my date tomorrow. I can talk to her all I want!” Esteban yelled.
Looking back, it was only getting heated. Part of me wanted to stop it. I didn’t want anyone getting hurt because of me. I ran back to get in between them and put my hand on both of their chests.
“Listen, let’s calm down. Everything is fine. I was just giving Esteban some space. Esteban, Carson is my new friend, all right?”
Carson stepped back but grabbed my hand to pull me away. Esteban’s teeth elongated, so I ran to him and put my hand on his chest again. His teeth retracted.
“Esteban, just stop this. Okay?”
