“Oh, I know what you and your dad are up to, then,” I blurt out, a smirk spreading across my face. “You are gonna try to sabotage their relationship, aren’t you?”

“Where are we gonna eat?”

Despite my tone being inviting and even joyful, Elise turns her face toward her window, trying to change the subject, but I’m already too mad at her to let it go.

“Fuck, Elise.” I sigh, my irritation growing at the realization I was right. “I can’t believe you’re gonna do that to your brother.”

“I said I’m not talking about it,” she snaps.

“Elise, stop it.” I put my hand on hers to mark the severity of the situation. Once her gaze meets mine again, I say, my tone more serious than usual. “No matter what your dad offered you to ruin them, it’s not worth it.”

She pushes my hand away from hers and disregard my comment just as fast. “Can we stop talking about it already?” Her tone is growing irritated, and she stares at me like she’sabout to shoot me daggers. “You know what?” I frown when she unfastens her seat belt. “Maybe it’s better I go and eat alone.”

“Fine,” I reply before she forces me to stop the car and drop her off. “I won’t talk about it anymore.”

Her lips twist into a victorious smile. “Great.” She then looks around and asks, “Any place in mind?”

At her question, it’s obvious she’s ready to switch the conversation to something else. And yet, I can’t help feel angry inside at what she and her dad have in mind. What a bunch! “I’m thinking to go to Yamazato,” I reply, unable to keep my annoyance at bay. “I’m in the mood for sushi. And you?”

“Fantastic choice, I love the food there.”

While I promised Elise I won’t talk anymore about what her and her dad are scheming against Andries and his fiancée, all I know is that I’ve got to warn him.
