These men could break him when he was in top shape. Coming intoxicated was a death wish.
The man must’ve moved because Buzz said, “Stop.”
“Hey, brother. Everything’s cool,” the man said, and it registered to me. He didn’t mean brother as in the MC club, but brother as in blood. This had to be Ax’s Uncle Nick who he didn’t care for much.
Ax had only spoke about him once, maybe twice, but I did remember this man.
“Everything is not fuckin’ cool. Do you have any idea what you’ve fuckin’ done?” Buzz growled low.
“Haven’t done shit,” Nick said, and I felt Buzz take a few steps forward as the air began to pulse. Something really bad was going to happen here.
“You fucked the club. You fucked our family. You fucked the Monroe name,” Buzz said.
“You sure as fuck did,” Ax said low as I gripped him tighter. “You want to talk to the club. Sure. Let’s fuckin’ talk to the club.”
Raid chuckled. Actually chuckled. I didn’t see anything funny about this entire situation and felt very out of the loop. What did Nick do? And what did it have to do with the club?
“Really?” Nick asked with hope in his tone. How out of it was this guy? Even I could tell going to the club to talk wasn’t something he wanted to do. Yet, here he was, excited.
“Yeah, really,” Raid said, shaking his head.
“I really need the money. Now. Old Red he’s comin’ for me.”
Who the hell was Old Red? And how much did Nick owe him?
“Oh, we know Old Red’s comin’.” Ax started. He made a move to step forward, but I clutched his leather so hard it made him stop. “He wants his money. Thought the club was gonna pay it. Imagine his surprise when we told him that wasn’t fuckin’ happenin’.”
“What do ya mean?” Nick asked.
“Enough talkin’,” Buzz said, and a shot went off, making me jump and scream as I muffled it in Ax’s back.
“Fuck!” Nick yelled out loudly as a thud sounded in front of us. “You shot me in the foot! What the fuck?!”
“You’re lucky it’s not in your brain,” Buzz said. “Raid…”
Raid moved forward from my right after a few moments, and Ax turned to block my view from the man at the door.
“Need you to go with Mom for a few. You can either stay here or go home, but I’ve gotta handle this.”
My head shook. “What’s goin’ on, Ax?”
He brushed his lips over mine. “That’s my uncle. He fucked over the club, and we gotta deal with it.”
My heart thumped hard in my chest. “What are you gonna do? I don’t want you to get in trouble.”
He smiled, the one I loved so damn much. “We won’t get in trouble. Fuckin’ swear it. This is club shit. Know this is my life. Two sides of a coin.”
I remembered how he dealt with things at school. It was why no one came at him. He actually backed up his threats, so this was no surprise. I guessed it was a shock being thrown into the deep end like this.
“Know I’m yours, and trust me,” Ax said, and damn I did.
I nodded instantly, and I didn’t know what to make of that. “I’ll stay here for a bit and then ask Bella to take me home.”
“Not even a quiver in your voice. Fuckin’ strong. Love you.” He kissed me hard, and I sucked in the gasp of the words he just said to me.
Love me. He loved me. Sure, he said I was his and he was mine, but love? Oh my God.
He pulled away, and I couldn’t get my mouth to move.
