His voice is so low I have to strain to hear him.
“You won’t ever have to. My thieving and sneaking days are over. I’m about to be a mom. I can’t be doing dangerous things and breaking into people’s homes,” I say with a laugh and then add, “or scaling out of them.”
He smiles and gives my stomach one last kiss before standing back up. “Good, because I don’t think my heart can take the constant worry. I saved the security footage of you hoisting your ass out the window here, so you don’t need to ever repeat that particular stunt.”
“Thank God,” I say, making him smile. “That was actually quite terrifying.”
He gives me a soft kiss and then pulls back with a sigh. “Get dressed, beautiful, so I can marry you.”
I smile and nod, more than ready to join my life to his.
Chapter20
Mikhail
Ididn’t think time could pass any slower, but after leaving Charlie in the bathroom, looking disheveled, flushed, and sexy as fuck, the clock seems to have slowed down even more. I can’t stop replaying what just happened. I’m going to be a daddy. I can’t stop smiling and pacing the downstairs living room. Not even the delicious smells coming from the kitchen can distract me. Valentina’s been cooking up a storm for the last several days, even though I told her I’d be more than happy to hire a caterer. She’d looked so deeply offended and hurt by the comment that I never mentioned it again. We decided to have the wedding out back, since we’re restricting it to only a trusted few, and she’s determined to cook a feast for all of them. I watch the guests start to trickle in and take their seats, but my mind is back in that bathroom with my pregnant fiancée.
Artyom comes up and smacks me on the back. “I never thought I’d see the day when your grumpy ass would get married,” he says in Russian.
“Me either,” I admit, and it’s the truth. I never once thought of marriage before Charlie snuck her cute ass into my house, and the idea of having kids would’ve terrified the hell out of me just a few months ago.
“I guess it’s your turn next,” I tell him and then laugh at hisfuck noexpression.
“I’m going to be way too busy with The Sweet Peach, and I’m not so sure one woman could every satisfy me. I need variety. I could never be happy with just vanilla for the rest of my life when there are so many other flavors to choose from.”
“We’ll see, I guess.”
He runs a hand over his jaw and gives his scar a soft scratch before turning to Yuri who’s just walked in. “The boss is talking crazy, Yuri, and trying to get me married.”
Yuri laughs and smooths down the front of his tux. “I’m glad you’re getting married, Boss. I like Charlie.”
“Yeah, I bet you do,” I mutter, but he just smiles and ignores my comment.
“But Artyom and I are remaining single. It would be unfair to all the women out there to limit ourselves to just one.”
“They’d cry themselves to sleep,” Artyom agrees. “It would be cruel.”
I laugh, and I’m so tempted to tell them about the baby, but I want to announce it with Charlie by my side. I want to share that moment with her.
“You are both so full of shit,” I tell them. “I’m going to laugh my ass off at your weddings.”
They both look at my like I’m crazy, but I’m going to enjoy rubbing this moment in when they finally do meet the right person. Yuri grabs a bottle of vodka and three glasses from the kitchen and pours us each a drink.
“To a lifetime of happiness, Mikhail,” he says, holding up his drink.
We all toast and down our drinks, but before he can pour me another, Valentina calls out, “She’s ready!”
Artyom and Yuri both squeeze my shoulder before going out to join the other guests. Charlie and I agreed that we’d walk out together since her dad isn’t here to lead her down the aisle. It also means I get a few precious moments alone with her. When I turn and see her walking towards me in her wedding gown, my throat tightens, and for one moment, I’m afraid I might actually start tearing up. All my men are outside, there’s no way in fuck I can cry right now, but the sight of my sweetzaichikwith her face absolutely glowing threatens to do me in.
When she’s close enough, I cup her face and give her a soft kiss. “I’m speechless, sweetheart,” I whisper against her lips. “I can’t cry in front of my men,” I say with a soft laugh. I take a deep, calming breath and rest my forehead against hers. “You’re so beautiful, and I love you so much that it almost doesn’t feel real, like it’s too damn good to be true. I’m afraid I’m going to wake up and realize this is all a dream, that you’re not really here and that you don’t love me.”
“I’m here, Misha.” She cups my face, and there’s so much love in her eyes that it makes mine tear up no matter how hard I try to fight it. “We’re both here,” she says, bringing my hand to her stomach. “And we’re not going anywhere. We’re a family, and we’ll always be together. There’s nowhere else on earth I’d rather be than right here with you. I love you. I loved you the first second you walked your grumpy ass into the restaurant.”
I smile at the memory. “It was damn hard to not smile at you,” I admit.
“Let’s get married, Misha,” she says, giving me a huge smile. “Let’s make this family legit.”
I laugh and give her another kiss before offering her my arm and opening the French doors. As soon as we step out, the music starts up, and I walk my beautiful fiancée past the Bratva family she’s just joined, Vadim and his smiling family, Valentina and Lyudmila who are already dabbing at their eyes with handkerchiefs, and finally a smiling Jinx who’s opted for a more subtle Hawaiian shirt and khakis.
