I take several deep breaths before finally going back inside.

“Feeling better?” Jonah asks.

I only nod, because something seems off.

The scent in the room is strange. Sharp and foreign.

“Do you smell that?” I ask, scenting the air.

Drago goes stiff. And Willa…

“Willa?” I ask. She looks strange.

“Mmm?” She doesn’t pick her head up from Drago’s chest.

“Look at me, sweetie.” With effort, she drags her head off Drago. Fear blacks out her hazel eyes, and I finally know what that scent is.

“Get the fuck away from her.”

Drago, or the thing in Drago’s head, sneers at me, drawing her closer.

But no one else sees it.

They only see me turning into a knot-brained caveman again.

“The fuck is your problem, Rafe?” Mari asks, getting up to square off with me.

Fucking delta.

“Hey, man, what’s going on?” Jonah gets up as well.

But I can’t take my eyes off the hand riding under Willa’s shirt.

“I won’t tell you again.” I plant my feet, preparing for the shitstorm about to go down.

“No, look,” Rook says, pointing at Drago. “His vibe is way off.”

Finally, someone with some common sense.

All eyes shift to Drago, and the beast within him smiles. “Even all together, none of you can overpower me. I suggest you let me have what I want and be on your way.”

The shift rolls through me without my permission. I’m flying at him, fully in my fur, sights and jaws aimed for his throat.

Inches away from his jugular, I catch the glint of steel in his crazed eyes.

Pain explodes across my left side, and I’m flying across the living room.

I hit the window hard and slide down before everything goes dark.

MARI

Intros later.I’ve got an alpha to put in place.

“Hey, dipshit. What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

Being a delta gives me the biggest “I don’t give a fuck” card ever. I’d like to think I’d be the same cocky asshole without the benefit of being a delta, but who knows? If alpha orders affected me, I might not have such enormous swinging ovaries.

So, I guess it’s a real good thing Iama delta.
