“You know when Wyatt threw a tantrum because he was justsurethat Brock had feelings for me and that meant he and I couldn’t be as good of friends anymore?”
She stops chewing and swallows hard, like it was too soon to swallow but she had to get it down.
“Yeah?” she asks, her tone of voice a little suspicious to me.
I look at her for a few seconds then shake it off.
“I just want to say that I’m so glad that we found each other through that time. It’s not like you don’t know this, but obviously Brock and I were always closer than the two of us were and I was afraid that when I didn’t spend as much time with Brock that I wouldn’t see the rest of you as often. That wasn’t the case, though. If anything, you and I grew closer because of it.”
“Well, duh, that’s because Brock wasn’t in my way of becoming your bestie,” she jokes.
Chuckling, I say, “True. I don’t know, I guess I’m just really happy right now and had to tell you that I appreciate how you didn’t let my not being as close with Brock get in the way of us being friends.”
“You aren’t losing me as a friend. Ever. And you don’t have to thank me for it, either. And just to say, Brock understood and if we would have bailed just because Wyatt was insecure, he would have had our heads.”
Unexpected tears spring to my eyes and I have to blink several times, look out the window, and hope they don’t fall.
“That’s… really nice, too,” I manage to whisper.
Still looking out the window, I feel Corbin reach over and grab my hand, giving it a squeeze.
“Done being mushy? This is supposed to be a vacation!”
My answer? Crank up the music.
The drive is absolutely stunning. I never get tired of the gorgeous landscape in Tennessee. The Smokies are pretty year-round, but especially in late-spring when everything is really starting to turn brighter green and the flowers are beginning to bloom. Not to mention the temperatures being absolutely perfect.
Since Pigeon Forge is only about two hours from home, it doesn’t take us much longer before we’re pulling in front of the Riverstone Resort and Spa and finding a place to park. The second we walk through the doors, I feel relaxed. The lobby is warm and welcoming, even with its opulence. I bet it’s beautiful here during the holidays. I can just picture it decorated with greenery and lights, with the big stone fireplace in the center roaring with a fire.
“Oh my gosh,” Corbin whispers. “The pictures online definitely didn’t do this place any justice.”
I shake my head in agreement. We’re both standing in the middle of the lobby, jaws dropped, eyes roving over every inch of the beautiful lobby. There’s a family walking through the lobby with two small children who are dressed up like they’re going to a wedding. A few couples dressed up as well as a trio of young twenty-somethings who are beyond adorable and dressed for a night on the town, even though it’s not even noon. We definitely look like girls straight out of the country in our leggings, oversized crewneck sweatshirts, messy buns, no makeup, and sneakers.
One look at Corbin and I can tell that she’s thinking the same thing.
We share a giggle and head to the counter to check in.
A gorgeous brunette with stunning blue eyes smiles at us as we approach the desk. “Welcome to the Riverstone Resort and Spa. Checking in?”
“Yeah, we have a reservation for Corbin Rae Lake.”
The hotel clerk nods and her fingers tap on the keyboard. “Perfect,” she says with a smile. “I have you in an upper floor double queen with a view of the lazy river.” She taps a few more times. “And it looks like you have spa appointments already booked.”
“That’s right.”
“Good. I’m jealous,” she says, glancing up with a smile again. “The Blueberry Bliss Body Treatment is phenomenal. You’ll feel like limp noodles after.”
“You’ve had it done?” I ask, leaning my hip against the counter.
“Just once.” Her cheeks heat a little and she continues, “It was gifted to me from a guest, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to afford it.”
“It’s definitely a luxury we don’t indulge in often,” Corbin says.
“Actually, ever,” I correct her.
“True. True.”
“Then you’ll enjoy it that much more, right? I always feel that when I’m pampered with something I don’t get on a regular basis, I appreciate it more.” She shrugs and continues working to get us checked in.
