“I’m flattered. Really, I am, but–”
“I get it.” She places her hand over my heart. “You’re a professional and don’t want to violate the employee conduct policy, and that’s why you said you were impotent.” Her hand trails down my stomach, inching eerily close to my beltline. “You don’t have to do anything. That way, you won’t get in trouble. Just stand there, and I’ll take care of you.”
What in the fuck?I grab her wrist to keep it in place.
Sadly, at one point, I might have taken her up on it. Why not? She gets what she wants. I get what I need. And then we walk away.
Except, she’s not stable and wouldn’t walk away.
No. I would have walked away from this golden opportunity. Carla has stalker written all over her forehead, and that’s more dangerous than ten Rebecca’s.
“As I said, I’m flattered, but I’m not interested, and I have somewhere I need to be.” I drop her hand and open the door.
“Asshole, this isn’t the end. Does she know who you are?”
“She, who?” My jaw flexes. No one is bringing Kinsley into this.
“Kinsley. Does she know who you are?” Carla’s voice is silky like a snake’s.
Chapter Forty
Kinsley
As Carla runs her finger along Leo’s jaw, I stop outside the door.
“She knows what she needs to know.”
“I see.” She smirks. “So, she doesn’t know that your last name is Radcliff. Or that you’re a billionaire. Or that your dick has been all over the internet.” She leans forward and rubs on him like a cat. “To the utter delight of women all over the world. That’s how I figured out who you were. The tattoo. The dick piercings. That killer ass.”
What is she talking about? Leo’s last name is Peng. Right? Has he been lying all this time? Why?
A billionaire? That’s complete and total bullshit. He works in the accounting department and moonlights for a security company. If he was rich, why would he do that?
My stomach clenches as bile rises in my throat. How does she know about his piercings? No one could know that without seeing it. Did he show her? Has he been fucking her?
Tears sting my eyes. Is everything in my life a big fat lie? Please, tell her she’s wrong. That you’re Leo Peng. An accountant. And she hasn’t seen your dick piercing.
Fuck. I’m going to throw up.
Except he’d kept being an attorney a secret until today. What else has he been lying about?
He grabs her hand in his fist. “You need to be careful who you’re playing with. I don’t take prisoners. I bring people to their knees.”
“Oh, Baby, I’d get down on my knees for you.”
“Sadly, I’m otherwise occupied.” He tosses her hand backward as he lets go.
“Are you?” She laughs wickedly and brushes past him. “It looks like your little girlfriend knows all about you now.”
Leo spins to face me as guilt washes over his face, confirming everything she said.
“Have a good day.” Carla winks as she sways her hips and disappears down the hallway.
“Kinsley, we need to talk.” Leo marches toward me, and I step back at the same pace, smacking into the wall across from the accounting office. The pain from crashing into the cement pierces the haze in my brain.
“I don’t think we do.” I shake my head. “It was all too convenient, wasn’t it? You showing up at the bar. Having sex. Working for me. Filling my head full of crazy ideas. What is real?”
“Baby.” He grabs my upper arms. “We’re real. It is real. Everything I’ve told you is true. Except I used my mom’s maiden name to apply for the opening. I am an attorney. I am a certified accountant. My brother was a Navy SEAL. I’m helping Truman, trying to figure out who’s setting you up. And I’m trying to keep you safe.” He cups my cheek. “The only thing I didn’t say was how much money I have in the bank. I told you about my ex, but I didn’t share that she filmed me in an unflattering sexual situation without my knowledge. It was humiliating and an invasion of my privacy.”
