Page 38 of Enticing the Fixer

As the group chats together, the lightness of her mood darkens as if its too much effort for her to pretend everything is okay. The other woman crosses her arms over her chest and taps the toe of her shoe on the cement floor.

Kinsley shakes her head, and another of the men, the largest one of the groups, wraps his arms around her.

Son of a bitch. Does she come here every night to pick up some random dude?

I know the type. I’ve seen it repeatedly back in Vegas, and part of the reason I was eager to leave it behind. It was stupid to think coming to the Midwest would have a different result. Women are still women. They always want something.

And Kinsley’s thing is random sex. I must have fucked everything up by being there Monday morning. I’m an idiot. Why did I think it was something more than sex? She didn’t tell me her name. She snuck out. She couldn’t have been clearer about her intentions. It’s my fault for getting sucked into my own game. And that pisses me the fuck off. “I’ve got something I need to do.”

“Take care. If she’s ‘the one,’ try not to fuck it all up.”

“No worries.” I clap his back. “I’ve got it all under control. I’m not going to fuck everything up and not have a way out.”

“Perfect.” One corner of his mouth raises. “You’ve got this.”

A Few Moments Earlier

Kinsley

“That’s him.” Ann motions over her shoulder as we stand beside the table the twins saved. “Or one of them is.” She frowns. “Damn. Another set of twins. You didn’t tell me he was a twin.”

“Where?” When I see him, I clutch my chest. He’s sitting next to a guy. A guy who looks eerily like him. “He told me he had a brother but didn’t say he was a twin.” Yet again, he didn’t tell me the full truth. Was anything about him real?

“That’s the guy?” Callen jumps out of his seat, joined by Kellen.

All three Callahan guys stand with their hands balled into fists at their sides as they study him like he’s an insect on the floor. Sean might have told me to keep an open mind, but that doesn’t mean he will give him a free pass. Fists first. Questions later.

“Yes. That’s Leo.” I nod and swallow over the dryness in my mouth. He’s the most stunning man I’ve ever seen. Dark hair. Brown eyes. Predatory gaze. For me. The man never stops looking at me like he wants to eat me alive.

“Which one?” Sean wrinkles his brow.

“The one on the left.” They have the same cheekbones. I can see how someone might confuse the two, but I can tell the difference–by the way Leo sits and holds his beer. And the second Leo lookalike doesn’t have one of the 5 horsemen on his bicep. Is that a lion? If I had to guess, the rest of the feline is covered by his T-shirt.

Leo twists and glances over his shoulder. Before he can catch me looking at him, I turn my attention to the guys. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”

“Let me be the judge of that,” Callen says as his jaw flexes. “I’m going to kick his ass for messing with our girl.”

Oh, my God.I roll my eyes and give a half-hearted chuckle. It’s like neanderthal city around here. Not that I don’t appreciate the sentiment, but I don’t want anyone beating him up. “I’ll deal with it. I got myself into this mess on my own.”

Kellen crosses his arms over his chest and braces his feet apart. “I’m going to deal with it.”

“Stop.” I place my hand on Kellen’s chest. “Don’t.”

“It looks like you’re going get your chance.” Sean tips his head toward the bar as Leo weaves through the crowd on his way to join us. His eyes bore into mine, making me feel exposed and hot all over at the same time.

“Leo!” August, one of the newest bartenders, rounds the bar’s end and grabs his arm. “Don’t go there.”

“I can take care of my own shit.” Leo rips his arm away from him.

“That I don’t doubt, but these are the owner’s sons.”

“Don’t care.” He takes two steps and eliminates the remaining distance between us. “Keep your hands off Kinsley.”

“Guys.” August raises his hands in defense as Leo’s twin ambles over to the party. “This is my best friend, Leo.” There’s another of the horseman tattoos. It flexes under the Callahan’s Bar T-shirt that August is wearing. “He’s a good guy. I can vouch for him.” He glares at Leo. “What in the fuck did you do?”

“Never mind.” I grab Leo’s hand and tug him behind me. He doesn’t budge. I stop and arch an eyebrow as the crowd around us stops everything and gawks. “Really?”
