“Babe.” Sean cups her face. “Save the improvising for the bedroom. Let’s not jump to any conclusions.” He drops his hand to his side and turns his attention back to me.
“What accounting software are you using?” Ann’s ex-boyfriend screwed her over and cost her a bunch of money. And when the IRS came calling, she hired Sean to straighten out her accounting records. That was only the beginning of their story.
“It’s a Radcliff Accounting Program.”
“That’s a solid system.”
“He also claims someone is stealing money or hiding it in an account to make me look like a theif.”
“I think he’s in on it.” Callen crosses his arms over his chest and stands with his feet apart.
“That would be ballsy.” Sean shakes his head. “I don’t think he’s in on it.”
“Fine.” I slap my hands on my hips. “Why do you think he told me about this theft after….” I trail off as heat floods my face. I’m not saying it. I fan my shirt to keep it from sticking to my chest.
“Oh, my God. You screwed him again today.” Ann’s eyes are wide as she stares at me in shock. “You didn’t tell me it was that good. If you went back for seconds, he must have known what he was doing.”
“Stop.” I close my eyes and raise my hand to ward her off. “We need to focus on what’s important.”
“Orgasms are important.”
My eyes narrow as I clench my teeth together. “I’m not responding to that line of questioning.”
“This is not a conversation we need to participate in.” Callen grabs the doorknob. “We’ll save a table.”
“Yeah.” Kellen shakes his head. “I’ll never look at you the same again.”
“Shut up.” These two are ridiculous. Why couldn’t I fall for one of them? Or both? They’re good guys. Smart. Attractive. Loyal. But too young. Except they’re the same age as Leo. What’s wrong with me?
After the door snaps shut, Sean wraps his arms around Ann from behind and holds her against his chest. “I think it’s farfetched for him to be the culprit. What would he gain by telling you what he discovered if he was behind it? I’m not a computer guru, but I know that system inside and out. Give me the access codes, and I’ll see if I can find anything out of the ordinary that he didn’t find.”
“Thank you.”
“Did he say who hired him?”
“No. He said he didn’t know and refused to leave. I told him to go, and he said he wouldn’t go until he discovered who was stealing from me or trying to set me up.”
“Oh….” Ann’s eyes get misty as a lovesick look covers her face. “You didn’t tell me that. He gives orgasms and wants to save the day.”
“Ann…” I glare at her. “You’re missing the point.”
“No, I’m not. The point was you needed to get laid, and he was at your office for half of a day and solved two crimes.”
“He’s not a superhero. He didn’t solve the crimes. He discovered there were crimes, but he’s not identified the criminal and saved me from the evil trolls because, let me tell you, the board meeting was horrible. They already knew about the data breach, and if they find out about the missing money, the dragons will force me to sell. He’s giving them the ammunition they need to force my hand.” I rub my temples. “Maybe that’s his purpose. To make me look bad. Maybe he programmed the system to look like money is being siphoned off.”
“What if he’s there for a different reason?” Sean rubs Ann’s bare upper arms. “What if he’s there to help you save the company? The person that hired him could be on your side. Or maybe he’s on your side. It doesn’t hurt to keep an open mind. Ann thought I was a horrible person when she met me.”
“No, I didn’t. I thought you were sexy and sweet. Then I found out you were sexy and dirty.” She smiles at him over her shoulder. “Which is so much better than sexy and sweet.”
That’s a lie. Sean is sexy, dirty, and sweet, but he would beat the shit out of someone without blinking an eye.
“What if he’s an amazing guy who….” Sean wrinkles his nose. “Gives amazing sexual favors and wants to fix all your problems.”
“I’m not that lucky.”
