When I arrived, he had just learned of our meeting, so I had to fill him in on everything.

“Listen, Logan. I’m going to be frank with you. I looked over your contract, and nothing is standard with it. Your agent is taking advantage of your age. It’s common practice with shady agents. Of course, I want to work with you. Everyone atThe Taylored Groupwould love it, and we have a whole team who could help. If you don’t go with us, I can’t make you. However, I urge you, either way, to switch to someone else. All is good now, but I promise he will screw you over one day. I’ve seen it time and time again.”

He nods and takes a sip of his drink. “It’s just hard to believe. He’s done nothing wrong.”

“Yet,” I correct. “You’re young. I was your age when I became a professional rugby player, so I get it’s hard not to trust everyone. But take it from me, someone with years of experience. This guy is not trustworthy.”

“Okay, let me think it over, and I’ll be in touch. I appreciate your candor.” He shakes my hand, and I promise to go see one of his matches in London. No matter what he decides, he seems like a good kid.

I text my driver, and he’s in a bit of traffic, so I walk down the street to the park, where I can sit and coordinate everything for Maeve, then book my flight for tomorrow.

First, I need to call Sadie to see if she can help.

“Hello?” Sadie answers.

“Hey, Slim. How’s everything going?”

“Good, Great. The girls are out back painting before we leave for Charlie’s rehearsal. The sun is out so they bundled up and went outside.”

“I’m glad she’s getting to paint today. She was mad when we had no time yesterday. But I have another favor to ask you.”

“Shoot.”

“Agnes is sick, like really sick, and I’m worried. I need to see her for a night or two. Do you think Penelope and Maeve can stay with you guys?”

“What? What’s wrong with her?” Sadie asks, concerned.

She knows everything about Agnes since she’s part of Nora and I’s story. She knows how important she is to me.

“Pneumonia. I’m annoyed with myself. I should have made her see the doctor earlier.”

“Oh man, Declan, that can be really bad. Why don’t you go tonight? I’ll have Wills set up a flight for you. I’ll tell him you have to see your parents about something.”

“You sure?”

“Of course! Tomorrow, Maeve would have been with us anyway. Annabelle, Evelyn, Lola, and Marco are coming over for a girl’s day.”

I laugh. “I love how you include Marco in girl’s day.”

“He loves it too.” She giggles. Marco is Sadie’s gay assistant/manager, and when he met us, he instantly clicked.

Just when I’m about to relax, now that that’s all taken care of, I squint my eyes in disbelief.

“What the…”

“What’s wrong?” Sadie asks, concerned.

“Hold on a second, Slim.”

I walk across the square, following the couple in front of me.

The man has his arm slung over her shoulder as they continue out of the park. I follow, crossing the street, then stop outside the art gallery on the corner, where they hug goodbye.

“Call me later, Fiona,” the man calls as he walks away.

“Will do!”

“Who. The. Feck. Is. Fiona?” I yell.
