“You got it from me. I’ve always played with your hair. Even just subconsciously when we were little. Remember?”

I do, laying in the fields, just being kids. He always had an obsession.

“But it was better when it was red,” he huffs, and I roll my eyes, not even responding. The man is obsessed.

“We’re going to be late for dinner,” he mumbles.

“Let’s just order in. I don’t want to move.”

“You sure you don’t want to see the town? I don’t want you to miss out on anything.”

“We’re staying here one more night, right? We can go out tomorrow. Tonight, I just want to stay in your arms.”

He squeezes me in reply. “I like that idea.”

“What’s this?” I ask as I hold up the small jar.I know exactly what it is.

“Honey,” he says around his burger.

“Honey?” I give him a lopsided smile. “Why?”

He rolls his eyes. “Don’t be daft. You know why.”

“You remembered?” I ask and wiggle my shoulders in excitement.

“Nora, I have not forgotten one thing about you. They didn’t have dessert, so I thought this was the next best thing. We know how you get when you don’t get your sweets.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Don’t get snippy, my little spitfire,” he says and steals a chip off my plate.

“I’m not getting snippy.” I snap. “What happens when I don’t have my sweets?” I narrow my eyes.

He leans back, contemplating if he should answer.

“Go ahead.” I fake a smile.

“For one, you get that weird as hell smile on your face, as you do right now.” He fakes the smile right back, and I narrow my eyes. “And you’re just plain cranky. This is no secret.” He shrugs.

I have no comeback. “Just open this damn jar,” I throw it at him in annoyance.

He chuckles and twists it off with ease. “Here you go, Nora. This will make you feel all better.”

I grab the jar from his hand and stick a spoonful in my mouth. “Don’t test me tonight. I’m all of a sudden feeling very stabby.”

“Stabby?” he laughs.

“Yes.” I widen my eyes, and he laughs again.

“Eat your honey, honey.” He chuckles at his stupid joke. “Then we’ll wash up and bedtime.”

I take one more spoonful and look over to see Declan staring with his mouth slightly ajar.

“What?”

“You have no idea how hot you are licking that honey off your lips. One day soon, we will have a lot of fun with that.”
