His partner came walking up behind him and Jett let out a low growl before he could cut it off. His partner’s brows shot up as he looked from Jett to Evelyn.
“Sorry, she’s all yours, dude. I just wanted to know if you’re coming on patrol with me?”
“Tell the commander something came up. I’m going to be busy apologizing to my omega for a while.”
Evelyn’s mouth popped open on a gasp as he threw her over his shoulder, turning to take her to his apartment. She smacked her tiny fists into his back, but she was laughing.
“Wait! My bags!”
He grumbled under his breath, turning to go back for them but his partner waved him away.
“I’ll leave them outside your door in a bit. Go fuck the grumpy out, I’m tired of your attitude.”
Evelyn shrieked as Jett let out a chuckle and took off.
27. Evelyn
Nothing was perfect of course.
Jett’s apartment was entirely too small, and it didn’t have a saferoom for when she went into heat, but they couldn’t afford anything bigger until she started working.
There was no need for a researcher in Eden, and little call for a pharmacologist either. Evelyn would be the first to admit she wasn’t good as a medical doctor because it had never been her focus, but lucky for her, the redhead omega who’d been running the lab was pregnant and not planning to return once she delivered. Evelyn would be helping out as needed in both the lab and the pharmacy until it was time to take over, but she wasn’t starting until after her imminent heat.
“I want to take you somewhere.”
She looked up at Jett as he leaned his knuckles on the bed. He was half dressed standing at the foot of the mattress after just leaving the shower, and she was tempted to pull him back into the bed for an encore performance. The burnished skin stretched taut across the muscles of his chest was too distracting for her to give more than a half-hearted hum at the idea of crawling from the blankets.
“Come on. Clean up and get dressed while I make us some food.”
She groaned, rolling onto her belly. She wasn’t hungry, though she’d be happy to swallow more of Jett if he offered.
The blankets jerked away and a sharp smack on her ass had her squealing and lurching across the bed.
“Up! Shower! Clothes!”
Rubbing her stinging backside, she glared at the alpha who was far too energetic and happy for first thing in the morning. Especially when less than half of the night had been devoted to sleep.
“How about bed, naked, covered in your cum?”
His eyes darkened and a low rumble spilled from his chest but he stepped away from the bed. She let out her own unhappy growl as he continued to back away, shaking his head.
“Later. This is important.”
Curling her lip, she dragged herself from the bed as he shut the bedroom door and did what he wanted. She came out to two wrapped sandwiches waiting on the counter since his dining table now held her notebooks and dying plant. She’d had her things shipped from the city a few days after she arrived in Eden, but they’d put most of it into storage until they had more space.
“You’re not even going to let me sit and eat first?” she asked as he passed her a sandwich and picked up two water bottles.
“No time since someone took forever to get up. Walk and eat.”
She grumbled but followed him out the door. It seemed like once she quit the university and came to Eden her body was trying to catch up on all the sleep she’d denied it over the past few months. It didn’t help that Jett kept her up most nights and sometimes woke her again in the mornings. She napped while he was at work, but her body was still dragging after two weeks of sex marathons.
She didn’t really pay attention to where he was taking her, focusing instead on forcing herself to eat the sandwich. She really had no desire for the food but knew she needed it. With the calories their sexcapades burned every day and needing to build up for four days of not eating, she couldn’t skip any meals.
She finished just as they walked up to a set of glass doors that looked vaguely familiar. There was nothing in the open area round the lift to tell her where they were, and she raised a brow at Jett as they stepped in.
The way he stood blocked her view of the panel, so she didn’t see which floor he pushed, but the lift finally rocked to a stop on the eighth floor. They walked out into a nice but blank hallway with a window at the end. She couldn’t see anything beyond the glass, but Jett turned her toward a door before she got the chance to move closer to check out the view.
“Where are we?”
