She shot a pointed look at the bags but when her attention moved back to Jett, there was a grimace on his face.
“Sorry, I just crammed everything in so I could take it down to wash.”
She grunted. There was no way she was sitting around in a towel waiting for her clothing.
“I can get you a shirt?”
Evelyn eyed his broad chest. Nothing that fit him would be appropriate, especially without undergarments, but it had to be better than a towel.
“Please.”
Nodding, Jett set the plates down on the coffee table and slipped past her back into his bedroom. It wasn’t long before she heard his soft footfalls behind her, and she turned to see a black t-shirt dangling from his fingers.
“This is the smallest one I have. I’d actually meant to throw it away because it doesn’t fit anymore, but I forgot.”
He shrugged as he handed it over. Giving him a smile and nod of thanks, she returned to the bathroom. Her skirt was fine by itself as long as she wasn’t going out in the cold, and while the shirt hung off her shoulder, it afforded her more modesty than the towel had.
When she returned to the living room, she didn’t get a chance to speak before Jett stood, his plate already empty.
“I’ll take the clothes down now. If you eat all that and are still hungry, I can order something when I get back.”
Dropping his plate in the sink, he grabbed a bottle of water from the counter and returned to her, hold it out.
“Drink this.”
He crossed his arms over his chest once she took it, making it clear he wasn’t going anywhere until she did as he ordered. Sighing, she twisted off the cap and drained it in four long gulps, handing the empty bottle back to him.
“Happy?”
She couldn’t help snapping the question at him though she knew he was only doing what any alpha would for an omega coming out of a heat. He grinned, dimples deepening as he shrugged off her attitude.
“Yep. I’ll be back in a few.”
Somehow, he juggled all three bags and squeezed out the door without too much struggle. She wouldn’t have been able to manage more than one at a time, but seeing him handle it with ease relieved any guilt about sitting down to eat instead of helping.
Jett must have listened to her order at the diner because the eggs were cooked exactly the way she liked them, and she devoured everything on the plate before the door opened and Jett returned.
“Good, you finished it. Still hungry?”
Groaning, she leaned back and put a hand on her belly. Jett chuckled as he made his way across the apartment, moving to sit beside her on the couch. Suddenly it seemed like it was much too small, the big alpha’s body hemming her against the wall.
Looking out the window beside her, she tried to shake off the sudden nerves she felt in Jett’s presence.
“Evelyn?”
She was reluctant to look at him, but it would have been rude for her not to.
Turning until she met his gaze, she held her breath, waiting. He still had a pleasant expression on his face, but she thought she caught a tinge of sadness in his golden orbs.
“Are you upset with me? For staying?”
Her brows rose and she quickly shook her head.
“No. I’m not upset with you. If anything, I trapped you into tending me by not paying attention to what was happening.”
His lips tipped up on one side, expression turning sardonic.
“Yes, it was so difficult for me to do that for you. It’s not like I didn’t already want you.”
