“I noticed you weren’t drinking much,” he says.

Because that’s not creepy. I hadn’t realized he was even here, but he was watching me?

“Do you want to try mine?” he asks, taking a sip.

Or pretending to.

I can’t help my suspicions, and I shake my head. “I’m good. Thanks.”

“You don’t want to get out of here and go do something?” he asks.

“Like what?” I ask even though I’m not doing anything with him. He just sets me on edge. There’s no real reason as to why, unless it’s just because of the whole thinking he’s fake and not really into me for me.

Where the hell is the Uber driver?

“See a movie.”

“It’s almost one in the morning,” I say dryly.

“I didn’t mean at a movie theater. You could come back to my place and—”

“I’m sorry. My ride’s here.” I wave at the driver. “Ann, hi! Thanks so much for coming.”

I don’t look at Dave and sit up front even though I always sit in the back for Uber rides.

Ann, the driver, looks over at me. “Are you okay?” she asks.

“Can we go please?”

“Do you need me to call the police?” she asks as she drives off.

“No, but I am so glad you picked me up.”

“As opposed to a guy?”

I nod.

She glances at the rearview mirror. “Seems like a huge party.”

“Yeah, and I just need to go.”

“That’s fine. No worries. I’m an introvert, normally. With these rides, I try to talk if a person seems like they want to talk, but I am perfectly fine driving in silence.”

“I can shut up,” I tell her.

She laughs. “This late at night, talking is a good idea. I only mentioned the introvert thing because I can go to a party for an hour or so before I already get the itch to leave. I now where you’re coming from.”

“I was there a lot longer than one hour,” I say with a laugh. “But I wasn’t drinking, and the guys…”

“All over you, huh?”

“Well, I wouldn’t say that exactly,” I mumble. “I… I couldn’t tell if they were being sincere or not.”

“What do you mean?”

“I… I’ve lost some weight and inches lately, and now…”

“Guys and girls are noticing you in a new light, and you find it strange. Your body has changed, but your mind hasn’t caught up to the new you yet.”
