“Yep. I’m going to get a banging body and then tease him with it andnotbang him!”
Brooke roars with laughter. “That’s awesome, but…”
“What?”
“Who says you don’t have a banging body now?”
“Trust me. No one wants to see this naked.”
“There are plenty of guys who—”
“I want to do this,” I say quietly. “For me. Not for anyone else.”
“Then what can I do to help?”
I smile at her. “Thanks. I… I’m not sure if the diet he gave me is going to actually be sustainable.”
“What is it?”
I tell her.
She blinks a few times. “Asshole is right. I’m sure this isn’t what he eats.”
“Do you have any suggestions what I should eat?”
“I try to eat clean,” she says.
“What does that mean?”
“Mostly healthy options, like this, but if you want more structure, do macros.”
“Macros? Carbs, protein, and fat?”
“Yes. There are online calculators that can help you figure out how many grams of each you should eat as well as calories. I did that for a bit, but once I got down portion sizes, I stopped. To get the best results from IIFYM—”
“What’s that?”
“If It Fits Your Macros. It means no food is off the table. If you want ice cream, you can, so long as it fits your macros. Eating clean food will stretch your calories more, and you’ll want to make sure that you definitely fit your protein goal, whatever that is.”
“And that should be…”
“Eighty percent of your body weight.”
“That’s gonna be a lot of protein.”
“Yes, but there’s also protein shakes—”
I wrinkle my nose. “I’ll probably want to eat my calories versus drinking them.”
“Not a problem. Let’s see…” She types on her laptop and then stands and motions me over. “Put in your stats. I won’t look.”
I sit down at her desk and type in my age, sex, weight, and height. Numbers spit back out at me, and I’m a bit overwhelmed.
“My fitness level? Bulk? Cut? What does that mean?”
“This number here is how many calories you need to eat to maintain your current weight,” Brooke says. “If you eat less, you’ll lose weight.”
“So this number is good?”
