Page 30 of Winning the Wolf

A whine left my lips as my paws started to slow. The deep howling in my mind distracted me from my mission, the longing pulling at every fibre of my being. No, I had to resist my mate and go to my sister. It was the only chance I had to find her. Killick would never allow me to leave otherwise.

My stubbornness won out as I yanked my disobedient head towards the field ahead. Just on the other side of the hedge, our lands ended, and the space between the two packs began. Maybe the desire to find my mate would go once I was beyond the border.

Huffing air into my lungs – around the irritating phone – I started to jog, ignoring the tug and pull of my inner wolf spirit. The scent that had enticed me started to ease slightly. Good, that meant I was moving away from the man I was destined to be with.

The wind blasted my face as I broke for freedom, running as fast as I could over the exposed grass beneath my paws. I just had to keep going, had to reach my sister.

Shit, the scent grew stronger again, slinking up my nose and turning my stomach to jelly. I wanted to lie down and wait, my hind in the air to attract my mate. No, I couldn’t give in to the temptation. I had to keep going.

Flying past the boundary line, I yipped a happy bark. Surely my desire would melt away, leaving me to track my sister without the burden of the most intense sexual urges in my life. I didn’t slow, not even when his scent intensified. Oh, crap, my plan hadn’t worked. In fact, my whole body tingled, as if I were about to burst into orgasm. What the actual fuck?

I carried on, my insides squirming and swirling with emotion I’d never felt before. Longing mixed with desire with a touch of… home… thrown in. No wonder the girls were so excited to be in with a chance to find their mate. The promises that my wolf spirit were whispering to my being were endless.

The scent of my mate wound around my head, just before something crashed into my side, sending me sprawling to the ground. I skidded across the grass, only coming to a stop when something landed on top of me, pinning me to the ground.

Bright yellow eyes stared down at me, slowly blinking as they widened. My heart pounded loudly in my head as the wolf reversed off me, shaking his head. I stumbled up to my paws and took a couple of steps back. I knew that shade of grey and white hair… noooo.

The air rushed out of my lungs as the wolf let out an angry bark. I wanted to turn and run, but there was no point. My mate had found me, and if I dared to turn my back on him, he’d kill me.

His snout retracted into his face as he morphed back into his human self. My stomach churned as I followed his lead, forcing my shift until I was on my hands and knees. I heaved violently as I tried to suck air into my lungs.

“Fucking charming,” Killick said, his voice thunderous.

My straggly hair hung over my face, masking my view of the new alpha. Every conceivable emotion surged through my chest, making it impossible for me to breathe, no matter how hard I tried.

“The wolf spirit is playing a fucking trick on me!” Killick’s shout echoed around the field, travelling away and back again.

His words mirrored my thoughts exactly, and yet, I couldn’t articulate the shit storm of jumbled sentences that were going through my mind.

“This has got to be the worst pairing, ever!”

“Hey!” I managed, getting to my feet and haphazardly moving my hair out of my eyes. “That’s just rude… although, true,” I finished in a quiet voice.

Killick was pacing, his back and arse muscles tensing and relaxing as he looked into the sky, clearly wanting to pick a fight with the wolf spirit. “I can’t…” he muttered, turning to leave.

“Wait.”

My squeak of a request made the muscles in his legs freeze. I could see the ridges as my gaze traced down from his gorgeous head of dark blonde hair, over his wideset shoulders and below, savouring his back and buttocks.

The pit of my stomach tightened, the feeling going lower as he slowly turned his head to look over his shoulder at me. “What?”

When our gaze met, we both inhaled sharply. Something in our DNA had been triggered by the magic of the full moon, connecting us in a way that had never been there before. A flood of desire pulsed in every part of my being, forcing me to cross my legs and press hard.

His eyes dropped as the movement caught his attention. A soft sigh fell from his lips and he half turned back to me, revealing his rock solid penis, so long and hard, it was visible in the moonlight. Oh, fucking hell.

My core pulsed and moistened as he caught his breath. We were noticing each other’s nakedness in a whole different light. My wolf spirit hummed in my head, the noise growing louder as Killick stalked towards me.

“This is insane,” I murmured, shaking my head when a growl grumbled through the alpha’s chest.

Only twenty minutes ago, I was his enemy. I had been shunned by him, excluded in every single way possible. And here we were, now drawn to one another in the most delicious tug of please fuck me.

“This can’t happen.” He stopped a few steps from me, every muscle in his being clenched.

My heart pitter pattered as I closed the distance between us. Maybe he could resist the urge to pounce on me, but I wasn’t so strong. The power of the full moon had awoken my lycan spirit, giving her the strength to take what she wanted.

“Killick,” I said, “you’ve won the right to claim your mate. W…will you do it?”

I wasn’t sure what was supposed to happen once fated mates found one another. Did they just get it on? Or was there another part of the games? My mind was completely hazy from lust and longing.
