Our breath intermingled as he brought his face close to mine. A snarl curled his lips, the expression ugly. It didn’t make me retreat.
“You are the twin sister to the person who killed my parents.” His gaze was as hard as his penis as it brushed against my stomach, sending a thrill up my spine. “And as much as I want to lay you in the grass and fuck you, I’m going to resist. Until we know the truth of what happened. I owe the pack that, at least.”
Spinning, he strode away, his shoulders tight and his hands still clenched. My wolf cried in my mind, making it hard for me to stay composed. My heart almost bled as he walked, only stopping when he was at a safe distance. His gaze dropped to the ground and he uttered a grunt.
My gaze followed his, my stomach churning when it landed on my phone, which lay disregarded on the dirt. Crap.
Killick bent to pick up the phone before turning to look at me. His eyebrows were pulled low, suspicion flashing across his face. “Why do you have a phone?”
“Firstly,” I started, feeling my hackles rise, “I was kidnapped and forced to join the mating games… without even so much as an explanation.”
His gaze dipped to the ground before it lifted again. “When it was revealed that it was my turn to play the games, the men had to round up the others. I had ordered them to not include you in anything regarding the pack. I’m sure they had a moral battle on their hands, especially when it was revealed you had to join the games.”
“Do they know we’re…?” My sentence trailed off when he shook his head sharply.
“No and they won’t… not for the moment. Stop distracting me and tell me why you have your phone.”
Licking my lips, I held my hand in the air as my tummy clenched. “Wait. So you’re planning to reject me? No going to the sacred stones?”
My chest felt heavy as I tried to get my breath. On one hand, it was good that Killick didn’t want to be my fated mate. On the other, his plan was tearing my insides apart.
Killick’s cheeks turned bright red as he clenched his teeth. His fingers gripped my phone, almost crushing it when he surged towards me and grabbed my shoulder with his free hand. “If it wasn’t for your sister, this would’ve gone a lot smoother. However, I cannot show my pack that I’m bonded to a traitor’s twin.”
Before I could think, my hands moved out of instinct. One took hold of his arm, squeezing hard. The other stroked down the ridges of his chest. Our breath hitched as my fingers dropped lower and curled around his long hard cock. Being close to me obviously contradicted his intention.
My eyes stared into his as he froze, not even daring to breathe as I stroked down the length of him. Desire pulsed through me as power surged. I had him in my hand, at my whim and he… sighed and relaxed, his gaze digging deeper into mine.
“Please…” he breathed, his eyes closing as I drew my hand up and down him again, “…don’t make me weak.”
Freezing, I licked my lips and felt the pulse of him in my palm. This wasn’t right. He should want me as much as I wanted him. I shouldn’t have to coerce him into being my mate. In fact, he was right.
“I’m sorry.”
Whipping my hand away, I grabbed my phone from him and spun, running before he could stop me. My hair flung around my face as I surged away from the man who had turned me into a desperate mess of a woman. Not only now but in the last week.
“Larissa!” His shout was almost possible to ignore. Almost.
I pushed on, ignoring the sting of the hard dirt underneath my feet. His scent called to me, his energy inviting me back. We only had a while before the power of the moon would disappear and we would miss our chance to bond. The sadness that slunk into my heart almost had me turning around.
The pounding of his feet grew louder, sending my heart into a panic. What was he doing? He had admitted that he didn’t want me, why was he now chasing me down?
“Larissa, I order you to stop!” he shouted, his voice bellowing across the field.
My feet slowed but only for a moment. I wasn’t going to let the alpha play games with me, I was worth much more.
Reaching the woods, I dodged a tree, yelping when his arms came around my waist and he tackled me to the ground. The weight of him pressed me into the dirt as his ear found my ear.
“Please, stop.” His voice was strained, his muscles tense as he released his grip on me. “I can’t resist when you run, it’s driving my instincts insane.”
Going still, I huffed my hair out of my face. Every part of him was pressed against my skin, even though his hands were planted on the earth either side of me. Thrusting, I dislodged him enough to spin onto my back.
Huffing, I slowly closed my eyes. “I shouldn’t have taken advantage like that, it was wrong. Especially when the mating bond is driving the desire.”
“You think I don’t want you?” he hissed in my face.
My eyes flung open as the warmth of his breath caressed my skin. He was staring at me, his gaze so hot, it set fizzles of heat into my skull.
“Trust me,” he whispered, leaning closer, “I’ve been resisting you for more than just tonight.”
