He raised his eyebrows but went back to being nosy without retaliating. “I feel amazing when you use it. Being locked up in a sparse cell was lonely. Until you sporadically used your magic. I could even feel the brush of wind on my skin when you turned into a werewolf and ran. It was divine.”
Before I could heave, Malone was on Kieran, pinning his arms behind him and shoving him against the wall. The plaster cracked from the force, ripping the wallpaper.
“Stop!” I shouted at my mate, running to him.
One of Malone’s hands cracked Kieran’s wrists together and the other squeezed his throat. His face was contorted, half shifted into a wolf. The elongation of his snout and teeth made him look strange.
“Please,” I said as Kieran’s face started to turn bright red. “We have to do it the right way.”
Leaning his face towards our enemy, the alpha snapped his teeth. “You will take that vest off, immediately,” he said in a distorted gravelly voice.
Tutting, Kieran snorted a laugh.
Malone released him and spun away, pacing to the end of the room.
“He’s right.” I snarled. “You need to take that vest off now. Coming here and threatening me isn’t going to make me want anything to do with you.”
Kieran held his throat as he regained his breath, choking slightly. The sound of him struggling to breathe had thrilled me, just a little. Yes, that’s how sick the bastard had made me.
“Don’t pretend that there’s anything I can do to make you happy that I’m your familiar.” His eyes narrowed on me as his phone rang. “Stay here.”
Leaving the room, he coughed loudly as he answered.
Malone remained still, listening to our enemy’s conversation.
“Hurry up and get here,” Kieran said. “We need to take him out while we have the chance.”
My heart pounded as Malone dropped to his hands and knees. No, surely Kieran didn’t believe he had a chance at killing Malone?
“What are you doing?” I snapped, prodding the alpha.
“I’m shifting.” He nodded towards the door. “Stand behind the door and wait for me to attack. Once he’s on the ground, run.”
“No!” Lowering next to him, I grabbed his arm in a feeble attempt to persuade him to stop. “I can just teleport us out of here.”
Shaking his head violently, he growled. “He could detonate that bomb at any moment. I’ve got to get it off him. Also,” he muttered, glaring at me, “he’s getting turned on when you use your magic.”
Ew.
A shudder moved me as I reared away from my mate. How could he be so vile? And yet, it wouldn’t surprise me. Kieran was a fucked up individual.
Before I could argue, Malone shifted silently, his snout appearing and his teeth sharpening, ready for attack.
I swallowed as I moved to stand behind the door. Malone would want me to trust him. I hated the idea of running and leaving him, but he knew wolves and their behaviour better than me.
“They don’t know it yet,” Kieran said under his breath, “but I’ll force her to mate with me.”
Shit, fuck, no way. The growl in Malone’s throat grew as he ran for the door, not bothering to wait for Kieran to come back. My hands shook as I followed, ducking into the hallway just as Malone launched, his hind legs propelling him into the air.
Kieran stood in the doorway to the front room, facing away from us. Hearing Malone’s growl, he spun, just as the alpha landed on him, his claws ripping at his face. They landed on the ground, Malone’s teeth snapping and Kieran dodging him. If Kieran’s hand was able to get to the contraption around his chest, he could blow us all up.
“No!” I shouted when our enemy brought a silver knife out from his pocket.
Malone’s paw pinned Kieran’s elbow to the ground, knocking the blade away. I went for it, ready to help if needed. Turning his attention to me, Malone barked and nodded his head towards the front door.
Kieran heaved his weight, trying to get his arms free. I had to listen to my mate, otherwise it might put him at risk.
“Be careful,” I breathed, spinning and running away from the man I loved.
