‘Better?’ Jack asked Ellen when he raised his head again.

‘I thought you should start the evening the way you intend to go on.’ Ellen laughed.

‘I couldn’t agree more.’ Jack held out his arm to Lucy. ‘Shall we go?’

‘Don’t wait up,’ she said to Ellen and Billy.

‘We won’t.’ Ellen gave an exaggerated wink. ‘Have fun.’

Lucy and Jack set off on the short walk to his parents’ home. The evening was frosty, the ground white with freshly fallen snow but the sky was clear, the moon making the frost sparkle like diamonds had been scattered around Cwtch Cove.

With Jack at her side, and an evening of fun ahead, Lucy’s heart was full. She was looking forward to the new year, to having a fresh start in the village where she’d decided to stay, to spending time with Ellen, Billy and Peggy and to seeing how her relationship with Jack progressed.

As the old year came to a close, she knew she had a lot to be thankful for, and it was all because of those wonderful mistletoe kisses at Cwtch Cove.
