My cock twitched, and I willed myself not to be a total fucking creeper and have a hard-on when she came back. I’d already pushed her way past her comfort zone tonight. As much as Wendy craved adventure, her default setting was security. It was the reason she lived next door to her sister, and that she’d gone back to work at the real estate office.
My mission was to give her what she wanted without sacrificing what she needed.
To distract myself from whatIwanted, I took a look around her living room. The scent was even stronger in here. Vanilla. Citrus. Wendy. The wolves would definitely be able to track her. We’d need to find a place to stay at least until we figured out the mystery around the Scepter and this new artifact.
We also needed a long-term plan, at least until we met again on that stage and I made her mine forever.
It was fucking crazy this was the first time I’d ever been here. It was colorful and cozy, with lots of throw pillows and fresh flowers, a giant TV, and overflowing bookshelves.
I expected the history and archeology titles, but—
“See anything you like?” She pushed a pair of black sweatpants at me.
“Didn’t realize you were such a horror fan.”
“Some girls relax by reading romance. Me? Sometimes I like to be scared out of my mind.”
“So on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate tonight?” I asked as I put the pants on.
She thought about it for a moment. “I’d give it a six, on account of the fact I ate it like a true horror movie heroine. What would you give it?”
“A nine, but I think a ten is still on the table.”
“Let me guess, you want to—”
I didn’t give her a chance to guess, or multiple-choice options before I took her face in her hands and pressed my lips against hers. She was still talking, but it only took a second before she grasped my shoulders and surrendered to the kiss. Electricity flowed between us, and fuck, if I’d had any doubts that Wendy was my mate, they disappeared with every stroke of my tongue against hers.
“Wow,” she rasped. “Guess that was worth the wait.”
“That’s just the beginning of what I want to do to you.” I kissed her forehead. “But the rest of it will come later.”
“Will you at least tell me what those things are? Like a little sneak peek?”
I shook my head and picked up the bag she’d dropped when I kissed her.
“That’s not fair, Gabe. I’m your best friend, and that means you tell me everything.”
“We’ve got to get out of here.” I wouldn’t stop at telling her what those things were. I’d want to show her.
She crossed her arms over her chest. Stubborn human. It was exactly why I’d fallen for her and why so many of my shifter kin thought she was a threat. The woman got what she wanted.
“I have a few things I’d like to do to you, too.”

Bibi
I thought I was the hardest working wolf in show business, but this morning, that title went to Hugo.
He was waiting for me outside of my cabin when I opened the door to head to work.
“Good morning. I hope you haven’t come with news that will change that. Oh, you brought a friend.”
His companion was tall, with broad shoulders, muscles for days, shaggy dark hair, and a beard. Definitely a shifter, but I wasn’t exactly sure what kind. He wasn’t a wolf. Too big.
But he was delightful.
