I give a weak smile, but I can’t meet his eyes. After assessing me quietly for a long while, he finally breaks the silence.
“You did what you could, Dylan,” he says softly.
“It wasn’t enough.”
“Come here.” He grips my head when I break down again and pulls me into a tight hug.
My mother is comfort, but my father is strength. As he holds me, I try to take as much of it from him as I can. God knows, I’m going to need it to get through the rest of this weekend.
