Chapter Two
POOL STICKS CRACKING billiards and murmurs of conversation filled the ambiance of Mount View Billiards. Tommy spotted Ethan and Emily in each other’s arms, swaying to Slow Dance in a Parking Lot. Those two suited the theater life. They didn’t mind the attention.
Tommy barged over, Sarah trailing behind him. “Bro, this isn’t Saturday Night Fever.”
Ethan turned, a black lock flicking from his eyes. “You’re just jealous.” He let go of his wife, took two steps, and fist-pumped Tommy.
Tom pulled him into a manly hug, slapped Ethan’s back, and grumbled into his ear, "Ready to be slaughtered by the pool master?"
Ethan pushed back and scoffed. "You got a lucky break last week. No chance tonight."
"Marriage has softened your game, bro."
Emily sauntered closer, wearing activewear and knee-high UGG boots. She slipped her arms around Ethan's waist, snuggling into his chest. "As long as he's winning in the game of life, that's what matters to him."
Tommy smirked at Ethan. "Oh, now she talks for you. I see how it is."
Ethan let out a relaxed snicker. "Happy wife. Happy life." He pulled Emily closer and smooched her on the lips.
Tommy rolled his eyes and glanced at Sarah. "See what we have to endure?"
Emily laughed and released her husband. "You'll understand when love comes for you." She wiggled her penciled brows at Tommy.
"Don't hold your breath."
Emily eyed Sarah and shook her head.
Tommy raked a hand through his hair. What was that look for?
Sarah stepped toward Emily and grinned. "As for me, I might be closer to finding that special someone after all."
Emily’s eyes widened. "Seriously?" She broke into an approving smile and ran to Sarah, taking her hands. "Tell me everything."
Sarah bounced on her toes. Wow. She seemed super excited to start something with Edward. Tommy’s insides soured. Why couldn't he be happy for Sarah like Emily? He taught his boys to be happy for the winning team. Why did he feel like such a loser right now?
"Tommy's co-worker wants to date me."
"Oh my gosh." Emily turned to Ethan. "Isn't this wonderful?" She hugged Sarah. "Girl, we need to go shopping."
