Page 67 of A Love Like That

He chuckled. “Sounds—what’s the word?—kinky. I say roll with it.”

Easier said than done. This was Elle we were talking about. “I’m just worried I’ll push things too far. Or that I already have.”

Not that she seemed upset. Far from it. Yet my inclination was to demand more. Push her even harder next time.

Enzo’s expression darkened. His body suddenly tense. “Why would you say that?”

“Because it made me realize just how different I am since Tessa died.”

He relaxed, and I wondered if I was making him uncomfortable by talking about my sex life. But then he asked, “Did you enjoy yourself?”

I nodded, trying not to let it show just how much I’d enjoyed myself. Watching Elle pleasure herself had been sexy as hell. Knowing that she was imaginingme…that she wantedme?Fuck.I was getting hard just thinking about it.

“Do you think your partner enjoyed herself or himself?”

I jerked my head back. “Wait. What? You thought I was talking about sex with a guy?”

He lifted a shoulder. “I didn’t want to assume since you never mentioned the person’s gender. And you were talking about ‘new things.’ And not recognizing yourself.”

I appreciated Enzo’s open-minded approach, but still. “To answer your question, yes, I think she enjoyed herself.”

If the goal was to make her come, I’d definitely done that. Multiple times.

He furrowed his brow. “Yet you’re concerned about something.”

“I just—” I sighed. “It’s like I’m a completely different person with her.”

“Do you like the person you become with her?”

I thought back on it. Elle had been surprised initially. Hell, so had I.

I’d returned early from the investor meeting, expecting her to be at Pore Over. So to hear her moaning my name… And then to find her standing in her room, touching herself in front of the mirror… Well, it was something I’d never forget.

And it had only gotten hotter from there…

“Tristan?”

I considered it a moment then nodded. “Yeah. She makes me feel alive.”

He clapped a hand on my shoulder, his face splitting in a smile. “That’s awesome news. I’m so happy for you.Auguroni.”

“Thanks, but it’s nothing serious.” Elle was the fun in my life. Being with her was easy, when everything else was hard.

“Ha!” He barked out a laugh. “Right. Good luck with that.”

I frowned. “What? Why would you say that?”

“Because that’s exactly what I told myself when I met Harper in Bali. We were supposed to be a vacation fling, nothing more.”

“What happened?”

“Fate intervened.”

I started to laugh but then realized he was serious. I should’ve known Enzo believed in things like fate and luck. I’d heard rumors of how superstitious pro athletes could be. Even though Enzo no longer played soccer for the LA Leatherbacks, I could imagine those beliefs would be deeply ingrained, especially after such a long, illustrious career like his.

“I’m just…” I blew out a breath, realizing that perhaps I was already in over my head. “I’m not sure I’m ready for this.”

“The sex? Or your feelings toward her?”
