“Very.” Nathan’s voice held a threatening warning to it before it dipped further.“Now act like a fucking Luna and stop being a short-tempered bitch.”

The woman didn’t stand a chance against Nathan’s Alpha command, which was why she shut up even though she was glaring daggers back at the temporary Alpha.

“Bibibibibibibibibibi.”

The eerie minor tone of laughter forced them to acknowledge the doll sitting in the middle of the table. Momo was content with a bunch of random toys, food, and crayons on the circular table that had originally been set to serve guests for dinner.

Not a place for a live doll to be singing and coloring images of other voodoo dolls.

Where did they even get a coloring book like that? It would be a good activity for the fleet.

“They always say lovers fight like cats and dogs. I can see why you two would be a good match for your alliance.” I didn’t need to see the woman in question to know it was Laura in disguise.

Despite her betrayal, she was still a member of my pack which was why I could easily track her to this establishment—not like I had to. My men did all the work for me so I could focus on my mate.

My eyes briefly looked over to my right side, as if they would land on Lexianne’s sexy frame. Sadly, my Sweet Lex was apparently “hiding” in the washroom. The unexpected split had something to do with the risk of Momo noticing her before we made our grand entrance—or at least, I made my grand entrance—which was why she was hiding in the washroom with the excuse of explosive diarrhea.

Apparently, it doesn’t matter what type of shifter you are. Explosive diarrhea will let anyone pass through guarded doors to avoid a shitty situation.

Her absence, however, was getting to me, which meant I was fucked. I was now addicted to Lexianne Monarch and I still hadn’t determined whether it was good or dangerously bad.

Deep in my cold heart, I didn’t care, did I?

Her forgiveness gave me a boost of confidence, and now that I was positive she was a demon after the brief incident in the car, I felt more relieved about bringing her along.

If shit goes down, I can at least revive her.

I needed this “showdown” to end tonight, for there was a lot I needed to do on Lex’s behalf.

Aside from fucking her every day and night for a damn week… or two.

What we did in the car wasn’t enough for my satisfaction. It was like a teaser, the experience giving me and my demon a high no one had ever been able to deliver before. I knew pinning and kissing her to distract her from the panic attack she was experiencing was a risky move, but I couldn’t think of anything better that would pull her out of that spiraling madness.

What did that bastard really do to her? More importantly, why was Baker there in that flashback?

I was sure Lexi had no idea I’d caught a glimpse of the flashback due to the obvious Alpha-Demon Recruit connection between us, but now that she was my mate, the brief memory delivered the waves of fear and panic she felt at that moment.

Clearly, this had to be before we’d found her that fateful day at the destroyed mine sight.

I needed to find out exactly why Baker and Father were going to these extremes—and risking a fucking war during these tense times—to retrieve Lexianne. I doubted she’d noticed when we arrived, but my men had already cleared out the dead bodies of the second round of assassins sent to ambush us.

This was my field of power. I controlled this part of the city. That was why Nathan had easily manipulated Laura into thinking it was the best spot to lure Lex with her familiar as bait.

As for Imposter Lauren, she was clearly going along with all of this bullshit for entertainment.

I doubted things would escalate into a situation that stirred trouble in these parts, but the wards would be up until morning which was plenty of time for clean up if things got a tad messy.

I knew Colton was surely around somewhere. He may have been new to Demon Valley Pack, but the cunning wolf-shifter-turned-demon was a hybrid before he got himself sacrificed—on purpose, obviously.I was counting on him being somewhere here if things got unmanageable, but if my father was really attending this deal, he’d do things the old-school way.

Offer his best deal or leave and ensure we didn’t make it back to Demon Valley alive.

Secretly, I yearned for the second option—the thought of him attempting to take me out in my own part of the city was laughable. I was sure the mention of my survival probably made him laugh in mockery, but he was like the rest of those bastards who thought I was but a weak Alpha destined to break the curse our generations of Alphas bestowed upon us.

This is my time to give them a glimpse of my true power.

The con artist’s favorite is here. Delightful.

There was nothing delightful in the sinister tone of my demon’s voice. He was mad. I could sense the rage he held for the man who not only conned our own father but took that man’s attention from us so we wouldn’t benefit from being the son of Alpha Shade.
