Naia sucked in a breath and whispered, “You startled me.”

He smirked. “Expecting someone else?”

She put a finger over her lips and pointed to the bed on the floor.

River widened his eyes and turned, then exhaled and whispered, “Oh. Your brother.”

She nodded, then pointed at the suitcase. “Can I bring this?”

He stared at it for a moment, as if thinking, then his eyes locked on Naia’s. “What’s in there?”

“What do you think? Clothes.”

He was staring at it, his eyes curious, but then something pushed him. Two pokers were bent around his neck and pinning River to the wall.

“Who’s there?” Fel’s voice echoed from behind Naia.
