As they pushed forward, I started following closely and carefully behind them. I couldn't keep my eyes off Cyburn. He was a warrior. It seemed like he was untouchable.
I began hacking robots myself, disabling them left and right. It was a breezier operation than I had expected, and for a while it was almost seamless. I couldn't help myself. I had to be in the thick of the action. I wanted to help them. I couldn't just stand there and wait. It just wasn't who I was.
One of the robots tried to assault Cyburn by grabbing onto his right arm. The robot tried to clip Cyburn across the head with a sharp hook object that it pushed out of its arm, but I intervened at the last second and pushed the power button on the back of the robot's armor plate.
"Thanks," Cyburn said, giving me an affectionate and grateful smile. He sighed with relief. "I see you follow directions really well, too," he teased.
"Hey now," I chuckled, "I saved you, didn't I?"
"For the second time," Cyburn acknowledged. "And I won't forget it."
He held my gaze for several moments, making my heart patter with desire. For a moment it looked like he was going to kiss me. If he did try, I was sure at this point I'd let him.
ChapterEleven
CYBURN
Idesperately wanted to kiss Carmela. Her lips looked amazing, shiny, and soft. Her cheeks were flushed a fantastic, arousing rosy color. There was a fire of excitement gleaming in her alluring green eyes.
I promised myself that I would eventually try to make the move on her. I was confident at this point that we both wanted it. It was only a matter of time, but first we had to get through this hell of battling the guard robots before they killed us.
One step at a time, Cyburn, you idiot,I reminded myself.Think with your head, not your cock. I know you want to, but you can't afford to get distracted by your desire right now.
Speaking of which, another guard, significantly taller than the rest, assaulted me from the back. It was wielding spikes out of its hands and had glaring yellow eyes that peered at me through its armor. It came out of nowhere and ambushed me.
I never even saw the fucker coming, honestly. "Cover me from the back," I shouted to Nix who was there in a flash right when I needed him. He was my 'right hand' in more ways than I could ever count. I was so grateful for him, especially in dire times like this.
My heart pounded as I ducked and dodged those angry spikes coming at me from all angles. It was a narrow miss every time. I had to be quick. If I was a second slower, I might have found one of those spikes gashed into my forehead.
The robot was trained to defend this area of the ship no matter the cost— to give up its life for the cause if it came down to it.
It whipped and whirled those gnarly, sharpened spikes all around me. It was an attachment to its arms, just another way for it to try and defend itself. For the robot, using blunt force was its easiest mechanism to take me down.
Then, it finally got me.
One of the spikes slashed through the fabric of my life support armor, but luckily it only grazed my skin and didn't tear me.
"Don't worry, I've got him!" Carmela shouted with determination.
"Be careful," I advised to her. "This one is even more dangerous than he looks."
Carmela raised the ray gun that she'd swiped from the guard in the lab room but before she could use it, another robot came up from behind her and started yanking her hair.
Carmela screamed and was repelled backward. She started fighting with the angry robot, thrashing, and attempting to free herself but the robot had a firm grip on her.
So, now we had another problem, trying to getherfree. It seemed like when we took one step forward, we had to take two steps back. We were getting nowhere fast, and it was extremely frustrating.
"Just go help her, I'll deal with this asshole," I told Nix.
"Got it," Nix said and focused all his attention on rescuing Carmela.
We were in too deep. We were in the thick of it now, wrestling with these robotic beasts, programmed to kill us in order to protect and guard their ship. This made them ruthless.
If I was going to take the spike wielding one down, I was going to have to get behind it and disable its power source.
Mind you, this was no easy feat.
The thing was out for blood. It was as hostile as robots came. It must have been the captain of this guard unit. It seemed extra protective. The other ones were just going through the combat motions, but not this one. It was savage of the worst kind.
