"What did you do?" Rowe hisses at his father.
"Just made a bet with her and she lost. She played a good game though. Still, she can't talk to you or let you touch her, period. Or the other guys. She knows the new rules. She's going to be a good girl and follow them like she's supposed to, which makes your presence here unnecessary. We have some plans today, don't we, princess?"
I wish he'd stop calling me that.
"All I know is I'm hungry after all that running," I say with defeat clear in my voice.
I can't fight this.
If you break the rules, Rowe Kade dies.
I can't risk Rowe's life. I love him. Maybe I always will, but I hope he forgets me quickly. The last thing I want is for him to pine over me and wish we could be together.
"You're going to isolate her? Are you insane? You're going to fucking kill her, Kai! How can you possibly think this is okay?"
Oh, sweet Rowe. Always coming to my defense.
"She's not going to be isolated, but shewillbe isolated from you, Nico, Dax, and Knox. After today, you won't be seeing her again, ever. Say goodbye because it's time for you to leave."
Kai grabs me by my shoulder and leads me into the kitchen, over to the table, and makes me sit in a chair.
"Wait right here," he demands before walking out of the kitchen.
Please, don't hurt him.
I nearly cry when the door slams because I know Rowe is gone. A part of me is relieved while the rest hurts.
I didn't get to say goodbye. I'm never going to see Rowe, Knox, Nico, or Dax ever again. The least he could do was let me say goodbye to Rowe, but no, that's too much to ask of Malakai Harris. After all, he's a sociopath that doesn't give a damn about me or my feelings.
"What do you want to eat?" Kai says as he steps into the kitchen.
Did he just ask…"What doIwant?" I gape at him.
He smirks as he opens up the fridge. "Yeah, unless you want me to pick for you?" He lifts up the container of turkey, torturing me with the sight of it.
I shutter at the thought of that filth. I fucking hate turkey.
"Eggs," I say before laying my head on the table, completely drained of energy. I can't even fake gratitude at the option of food beside turkey.
"Eggs it is." Kai grins at me and I scowl.
He can be fake all he wants. It doesn't change that he's making me miserable or that he's a psycho.
I stay there in that position, watching him move around the kitchen. The smell of eggs waft through the air and my stomach growls. It's not the same as Nico's red velvet cookies, but it's better than turkey.
"What happens today?" I ask as Kai sits the plate of eggs in front of me.
He gives me a look full of questions and suspicions. "What do you mean?"
"Dax told me you have something planned for today. He just didn't tell me what. Then, you said to Rowe that today would be the last time any of them saw me, which means they're all coming back today. What's going on?" I press as I pick up my fork and twirl the eggs around my plate.
Kai sits across from me with his own plate of eggs and his phone in his hand. "You'll see. You only have two steps left."
Didn't Dax say there were four? What happened to the other two?
"I meant it when I said the physical torture is over. Don't worry. You'll be getting a visitor tonight."
A visitor? Who?
