“Alright, alright. Let’s get this shit on the road. I’m ready to see my bride.”
I understand that feeling. I’ve been missing Emily a ton since we parted ways last night. It’s ridiculous that I miss her so much when we live together and I see her every day, but now that things are different between us, I crave her in a way I didn’t before.
It’s kind of like getting that first tattoo and then immediately planning your next one because you start to crave the sting of the needle drawing on your skin. Or maybe it’s because I’ve had a taste of her. I drank from her cup and now the only thing I crave is a never-ending refill.
The five of us line up at the altar in the chapel of Whisper Fields and await the beautiful ladies about to walk down the aisle. Hadley’s mother looks more alert than she was even yesterday, which tugs at my heart a little bit. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Beckham and Hadley chose to have their wedding in a place that could include her mother. It’s what Beckham would’ve done for Dad as well. And since Mrs. Hutton communicated to Hadley that she didn’t want to go to the reception so that Hadley wouldn’t worry about her, we all pitched in to make sure this wedding would be a stunner, and it is.
Garland adorned with white roses, pinecones, and silver glittered pieces hang from every doorway and window in the room. Lining the front alter area, white poinsettias sparkle with a touch of glitter, as does the white carpet running down the aisle. The large crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling only adds to the aesthetic of the room. It’s a beautiful winter wonderland in here.
Music starts to play from the speakers overhead and I recognize it right away as Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know”. The doors open in the back and there stands Hadley’s friend, Mel looking beautiful in her silver gown that’s flowy on the bottom and all lace on top. I patiently watch her walk down the aisle followed by Hadley’s other friend, Shea and then there she is.
The girl I can’t stop thinking about.
The girl who makes me hard.
My best friend.
My Emily.
Chapter 15
Emily
Walking down the aisle is supposed to be the easy part. Beckham, Elias, Graham, and Asher all smile at me endearingly as I put one foot in front of the other. Emmett though, he looks like he might lose his mind watching me step toward him. His jaw drops as he checks me out from head to toe. I know he likes what he sees, but when I catch his eye and watch him slowly lick his lips like a kid in a candy store, I nearly lose my footing. My heartrate picks up and I know my cheeks are flushing, but I can’t stop staring at him. I struggle most days to wrap my mind around the idea of him being attracted to me after all this time together, but one thing is for sure. I’m drawn to him. I’ve always been drawn to him.
His body.
His comfort.
His protection.
His heart.
Finally, Emmett’s face breaks into a huge appreciating smile and he winks at me. I return the gesture and then turn toward the rest of the bridesmaids already in line. Lacey is behind me followed by Hadley’s best friend Whitney and then it’s time.
Hadley stands at the end of the aisle in a gorgeous A-line long sleeved white wedding dress with a full ruffled train that is to die for. Her hair hangs down her shoulders in fluffy waves and on the back of her head rests a matching tulle veil. Before she steps off, she lifts her dress just enough to show Beckham, and the rest of us, her stunning blue cowgirl boots underneath. She is the epitome of a winter country princess, magically stunning with just a hint of that sass we know so well.
Next to Hadley in the aisle is her mother in her wheelchair being pushed by Mrs. Fox. I peek over at Beckham and my heart explodes as tears run down his face. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Beckham Fox cry, but if there’s ever a reason, watching his bride walk down the aisle with their two mothers is definitely the best reason.
Once everyone makes it to their places, the minister opens his book and smiles at the audience.
“Dearly beloved, we gather here today…”

“You,” Emmett says, wrapping an arm around me from behind and kissing my neck several times, sending goosebumps over my skin. “Are radiant.”
“Thank you.” I fold my hand over his on my abdomen so he stays right where he is. “You don’t look so bad yourself.”
“You didn’t tell me your dress was backless. Where is the rest of the material?”
I give him a knowing grin as I tip my head away giving him more access to my neck. “Some secrets are good secrets to keep.”
“That’s fair, but you should know the lack of material only makes me want to tear this dress off of you and bury myself in your gorgeous tits.”
“I see. But just how do you know I have gorgeous tits if you haven’t yet seen them?” He didn’t even bother to take my shirt off the other night. He had his sights set on my land down under with no distraction. And a while ago he swiped across my nipples but again never lifted my shirt.
What a tease.
