He shakes his head, studying me. “It’s not what I’m looking for.”
“It’s not what I’m looking for either. I’m sorry if I gave you that impression.”
“You were right though, Em.” He smooths his thumb across my cheek. “I was a player before you moved in here.Beforeyou moved in.” He repeats his words, his brows raised, and I get what he’s telling me. Maybe he’s right and I shouldn’t focus so much on the young man he used to be but rather on the gentleman he is now. The man I find myself falling for. “I slept with a lot of different women, and I can’t take any of that back. It’s who I was growing up. But I’m not that person anymore. Especially not in the last couple years.”
“I know.” I reach my hands around his forearms. “It’s just that, you’re my person, Emmett. The only one I fully trust. The only one who doesn’t judge me for who I am, and I’m scared. I’m scared something will happen to us and I’ll lose my best friend. I don’t want to lose my person.”
He moves his hands to my shoulders, gently rubbing and kneading the stress and anxiety away. I know he means for his touch to be calming, but his strong hands on me is more electrifying than I want to admit. I kind of wish he would just scoop me up and take me to bed.
“You don’t think I’ve thought of that? That I haven’t wondered what would happen between us if I somehow fuck things up?” His puppy-dog eyes melt me.
“Who said anything about you fucking it up? Emmett, I’m the one who upset you the other day. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m sure you’ve considered it.”
Emmett scoops my hair out of the way, exposing my neck, leans down, and softly places his lips behind my ear and oh, my God I have to remind myself I still have legs to stand on. “So, what are you saying, Em?”
He works his way down my neck, placing light kisses on my skin, my head rolling toward him. My face flushes as desire radiates through me. My heart thumps as though it’s pumping itself right out of my chest.
Breathless, I tell him, “I’m saying I want to try.”
He kisses the crook of my neck once more. His lips soft against my skin. Then, with a slightly stern tone to his voice, he asks, “Try what?”
Oh, my God, my body is throbbing. Emmett Fox is kissing my neck and it’s hella-hot and feels exactly the way I dreamed it would. “Try us. Dating, I mean. Maybe you could go with me tomorrow and we wouldn’t have to really be single.”
His kisses stop and I panic that all of this is one huge miscommunication once again. I squeeze my eyes closed and hold my breath, nervous about what he’ll say, but then he slides his tongue all the way up my neck to my ear and puts my earlobe between his teeth, the tickle making me snicker.
“There’s nothing I want more than to be your date tomorrow, Em.” Holy Jesus he just used his porn voice. That sexy morning voice he uses that makes me swoon. He totally just used it and I have to bite my lip to stop myself from smiling like a love-sick teenager.
“Good,” I release a big breath. “Okay. Good.”
He whispers in my ear. “And now I’ve licked you…so you’re mine.” He swats my ass with a teasing smile and walks halfway down the hall before he turns back. “And I’m not willing to share.”
Chapter 12
Emmett
Me:Happy Valentine’s Day motherfuckers! Your Louisville bro finally got the valentine he’s been waiting for!
Graham:Does this mean what I think it means?
Asher:You finally got a penis sleeve? #bigger #thicker #longer
Graham:LOL!
Me:Nah bruh. Even better.
Asher:You lucky dog!! You got that new automatic heated pocket pussy with the cool touch screen? I’m super jelly right now!
Beckham:Ash, I think you need to get yourself laid, buddy. Go wipe that jelly off and put some clothes on.
Asher:How do you know I haven’t gotten laid?
Me:No assholes! I’m talking about Emily. ME and EMILY.
Graham:What the Fuuuuuck? You finally did it?! Lacey’s gonna freak!
Beckham:Hadley is giddy dancing in the middle of the kitchen as we speak.
Me:We didn’t do it like…DO it do it. But we finally talked about things and decided it’s what we both want. *Smiley emoji*
