Nevel looked back at them. “All right, now who’s hungry?”
They ate dinner and ordered dessert. She stared at the chocolate mousse as it was placed and salivated. She looked at Nox, who chuckled at her. “Eat it. I can see you want to.”
With a spoon, she dug out a large bite. She could almost moan at how much she liked it. Elise was eating one across from her, nodding in agreement.
She took another bite and froze. Something was in her mousse. She looked at Nox, confused, and he raised an eyebrow. She quickly grabbed a napkin spitting out the hard item.
She glanced at it, and her eyes widened. It was a ring. She looked at Nox, who was now smiling. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Kelli Wells, will you do me the honor of marrying me?”
Her mouth dropped, and she sat stunned. She felt tears pile up, and she nodded quickly. “Yes.”
Nevel and Elise cheered as he pulled her close, giving her a kiss, and her heart felt full. Violet clapped her food-covered hands excitedly and yelled, “yay.” Nox was going to marry her.
FORTY-ONE
KELLI
She stood in the white dress, unable to breathe. It was beautiful, and she couldn’t believe how she looked in the mirror. Her hair was curled, and her hips looked sexy in the fabric. She was stunned.
“Kelli, come out and let me see it,” Elise spoke up outside the dressing room, growing impatient. She couldn’t blame her. Everything she’d tried on was a knockout, but none of them were meant for her. But this was the one.
She turned, opened the door, and stepped out. Elise’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth as she jumped out of her chair. “Oh my God!”
“This is the one,” she said, telling both Elise and the girl helping her. Both of them were grinning ear to ear, letting her know they agreed.
She looked at herself in the mirror, taking in the long train and the lace that ran up her sides. There was a small slit that allowed some of her skin to show, and the top was covered in gems. She imagined wearing a veil and walking down the aisle. She suddenly grew giddy, unable to hold in her excitement. She was going to marry the man she loved, and she was going to look damn gorgeous when she did.
They stopped at a cafe after purchasing the dress and shoes. She was starving from being on her feet since six in the morning. Elise had told her they needed to get a move on.
She swung into her chair as Elise pulled out the wedding notebook. Her wedding was written down in fine detail, planned to the minute. There were photos, phone numbers, and different fabrics, all attached inside.
“Wedding dress checked,” Elise said, giving her a large grin. “Now, onto the reception. The church we’re using said they have an opening at eleven in the morning on the eighth and on the ninth at seven in the evening.”
She thought about it, going over the color of the flowers and thought of the guests. She wanted it to be a morning wedding.
“Morning, for sure. We can then be on our way for our honeymoon quicker as well.”
Elise nodded, writing it down. The waiter came and took their order while they went over the meals. She wanted to do chicken breast or salmon for the wedding, something easy, while Nox was determined to serve pheasant. She wasn’t bouncing at the idea but gave in and wrote it as an option with the salmon. After all, it was his wedding as well.
As they finished eating, everything was done, and Elise snapped the book shut. “Now, all we have to do is wait.” That would be the hardest part of the entire process. They still had a few weeks before the designated time.
The weeks flew by, and before they knew it, they were having a rehearsal and dinner the night before the wedding. She stepped into the church and smiled.
All the windows were open, allowing fresh air into the space and the view of the mountains was breathtaking. The church was a cream color with exposed brick. The flowers were already put up for their wedding in the morning.
“All right.” Elise snapped her fingers, standing at the altar with Nox. He was holding Violet while Nevel was trying to fix his shirt. “Everyone, let’s just do this quick so we can get a move on. I have reservations for tonight, and I don’t want to change them.” She looked at Nox. “That means you, sir. Do not make yourself a groomzilla.”
Nox chuckled, rolling his eyes, but took his spot, handing Violet to her parents. Kelli glanced at her own parents and sister sitting on the left side. They flew in earlier that week, and she was thrilled they loved Nox. They had commented on how charming and caring he was to her.
“Kelli!” Elise yelled down the aisle, snapping her fingers. She quickly pulled her attention toward her. “Pay attention. You’re going to make yourself late for your own bachelorette party at this rate. You missed your cue.”
She noticed everyone watching her, and Nox was smirking. She blushed. “Sorry, I was daydreaming.”
Elise scowled, shaking her head. “Daydream later. Now start walking.”
The reception run-through went by quickly, and Elise snuck her out the side door to a limo before she could go looking for Nox.
