It stung, but I didn’t care about the pain, still keeping him in my line of sight. The image of him and Georgia kept superimposing on my vision. My Georgia. He touched my Georgia. He was going to pay.
I was about to attack again, but suddenly, multiple hands were on my shoulders, pulling me back.
I managed to shrug the first set of hands away before stalking toward Lupin again. The bastard was still standing there, staring at me in surprise, but I could see the fire in his eyes too. He was mad. He wanted this fight as much as I did. It had been a long time coming.
Even more hands grabbed me again, and this time, they managed to pull me back. I didn’t fight them. I wanted them to be lulled into a false sense of safety so they would not expect it when I broke away once more.
“I’m calling the police!” someone yelled.
I barely heard them. Still, I watched Lupin, who was still standing by his desk, his hand back on his nose now. There was a large window right behind him. Where was a huge earthquake when you needed it to toss him through?
I guessed security arrived at that point because a man in a uniform came up to grab my arm. I turned to stare at him and saw him swallow. He immediately backed off, watching me apprehensively.
“Let him go,” I heard Lupin say, and the security guard’s face was filled with relief.
“Are you sure, boss?” he asked to reconfirm.
“He came in here like a maniac,” his secretary, a stout woman with glasses perched on the edge of her nose, bristled. “I couldn’t stop him, sir. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine, Brenda. Just let him go, and get everyone out of here.”
The hands left my shoulders, and I heard the sounds of a reluctant retreat.
Lupin walked around his desk to lean against it, which was a bold move because I still wanted to wrap my hands around his neck and wring the life out of him.
“I’m guessing you found out,” Lupin said, wincing as he tested his jaw. “And you want an explanation.”
“Did you touch her?”
He cocked his head. “What would you do if I said I did?”
A loud snarl tore out of me, and I went for him again. This time, he was ready, and he slipped to the side like the snake he was. He assumed a fighting stance, and I was reminded that the man had taken martial arts back when we were in university. It didn’t matter. I was also a boxer, and I was as highly motivated as I’d ever been.
We circled each other for a few seconds, each gauging the other’s skill and planning the moment of attack.
“You’re this worked up because I was with Georgia, aren’t you?” the bastard taunted, sending a fresh burst of rage through me.
“Did you fucking touch her?”
“Yes. Is that what you want to hear? I touched her, and I kissed her, and we made love all afternoon.”
“You’re a fucking liar.” I saw an opening and went for him, feigning with my left before bringing my right-hand up to crack against his jaw. The blow sent him back into his desk, but he kicked out, nailing me in the chest. He followed up with a roundhouse kick that I blocked with my left arm. Pain reverberated up my forearm, and I knew it would definitely bruise. Still, I grabbed his leg with my other arm, twisting and yanking him to the ground. He brought his other leg up in the process and wrapped it around my neck, flipping me on my back.
Nice move. Fucker.
I sent my fist into his face again, but this time, he dodged, flipping to his feet. I flipped to mine and shot my fist out again. He dodged the next one and the next one too. Shit. I knew my anger was making me predictable, but I couldn’t help it. All I needed was one shot, one good shot to end him forever. And I would get it if it was the last thing I did. Eventually, he would get tired of dancing around like a fairy, and then, once I caught him, I would rain punches on him until he couldn’t move. He just needed to tire out a little. I could already tell from his breathing that he was getting winded.
Lupin gave me a satisfied smirk. “Never in my life did I think I would ever see you like this, Donovan. It’s even better than I thought.”
“Shut up, you bastard.”
“You finally know how I felt all these years. You finally know what it feels like to have someone take something from you.”
“Sasha was never yours, you moron,” I said savagely. “She has never felt anything for you. I tried to tell you this so many times, but you just couldn’t seem to get it into your thick skull. She never has and will never see you as anything more than a friend.”’
“I know,” Lupin responded with relish. “That’s why I moved on. To Georgia.”
“Touch her, and I will murder you.”
