I huff out a breath. “Okay, but none of this goes any further.”

They all nod and stare at me.

“When I was at his house teaching him how to make my sugar cookies, he kissed me and…”

“And?” Becca shouts.

“It was the most amazing kiss I have ever had.”

They all squeal.

“Oh, my God! That is amazing,” Jess says. “I’m so happy for you, Sam. I want nothing more than for you to find happiness, and I think Josh could be the right one to show you that.”

“I couldn’t agree more.” Vicki pulls out a lavender scoop neck sweater out of my closet. “There is something about the two of you. I can feel it. He’s the one.”

“You said the same thing about Derek.” I tilt my head.

“Yeah, I did, and I was wrong. I’ll admit it. But I know Josh well, and he’s not Derek. Not even close. He is so far away from Derek… he’s in another province.”

We all laugh.

“Wait,” I say, stopping the laughter. “Did I hear what I think I heard?”

“What did you hear?” Becca asks.

“I could have sworn I heard Vicki say she was wrong.”

Jess giggles. “You did. I heard it too. Too bad we weren’t recording this.”

“Oh pfft.” Vicki laughs. “I can admit when I’m wrong. You guys act like that never happens.”

“Oh, it happens. You just never admit it,” Becca laughs so hard she snorts, which sends the rest of us into hysterical laughter, including Vicki.

“What’s so funny?” Amelia comes into the room holding Oggie, Jenna right behind her.

“Oh nothing, sweetie, your auntie Becca’s being silly,” I say.

Jenna heads for my closet and starts looking through my clothes and Amelia jumps up onto the bed, shaking the iPad. “Oops, sorry auntie Jessie.”

“It’s okay, pipsqueak. Is that Oggie I see?”

“It is.” Amelia holds the stuffed dog up to the screen.

“Does he like it in Sunset Creek?” she asks.

“He loves it here, and so do my other stuffies.”

“Well, you are going to have to show me all of them next time I come to town. Okay?”

“Kay. It’s a deal.” Amelia smiles into the screen, then looks at Vicki. “Auntie Vicki, that’s one of momma’s favourite sweaters.”

Now that the laughter has subsided, Vicki looked at Sam. “It is?”

Before I could say a word, Amelia says, “It is. She usually only wears it on special occasions.”

“Oh. Well, that settles it, this is the one.” Vicki passes me the sweater and the jeans and pushes me in the bathroom’s direction. “Go put it on. We still need to do your makeup and Josh is going to be here in thirty minutes.”

I come back into the room, and Jess gives me a catcall whistle. “Looking good there, miss hottie!”
