“There, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”
She laughs.
“How does six sound?”
“Sounds perfect. Did you want breakfast today, or just coffee and a muffin?”
“Nah. I’m just here for a coffee. I have some things to do if I plan on getting off on time to take the prettiest woman in town out tonight.”
She bites her lip and I swear to God, my pants are suddenly two sizes too small. “Stop that.”
Her eyes widened. “What?”
“Don’t bite that lip of yours. I can’t be held responsible for what I might do.”
She laughs and slaps me on the arm. “Oh, stop it.”
“I’m serious. It’s one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen.”
“Now you’re just lying.”
I shake my head and put two fingers up. “I swear.”
Now she shakes her head. “You’re too much Sergeant Prescott.”
I down the rest of my coffee and place the mug back on the counter. “I hope not,” I say, hoping she gets my subtle hint, which I think she does by the shocked look on her face.
This time I walk around the counter and pull her into my arms, not caring who sees me, and I kiss her, hoping it’ll hold me until tonight.
She kisses me back, wrapping her arms around my neck. I pull her closer.
Someone lets out a whistle, and she backs up. Her face beat red.
“I’ll see you tonight, beautiful,” I say as I turn and head for the door, nodding to the table of guys from which the whistle came from. Letting them know she is in fact off the market. Whether she knows it yet, Samantha Langfield is mine.
Chapter Nineteen
Sam
“Idon’tknowwhatI should wear?” I ask Vicki, Becca and Jess. Jess called a few minutes ago and when Vicki told her I was going on a date with Josh, she wanted to stay on the line and be a part of this so-called monumental moment.
“This is going to be your last first date, and it’s with the sexy Josh Prescott. You can’t do better than him,” Jess says through the video app. “I’ve only met him a few times, but he is totally perfect for you. The two of you will make the most perfect looking couple. I swear, every woman in town is going to be so jealous.”
“Oh, stop,” I say, turning towards my closet.
“She’s right,” Becca agrees. “There have been many women through the years trying to get Josh’s attention, but he never gave them a second thought. But you, our little sister, the sweet, innocent looking Samantha, grabs his eye. I don’t know how you did it but, good job, sis,” Becca says, coming up to me for a high five.
I laugh. “You guys are ridiculous. It’s just a first date. Maybe he will get to know me and decide he made a huge mistake.”
“Bullshit,” Vicki says, grabbing a pair of jeans out of my dresser drawer. “I’ve seen the way he looks at you every morning at the diner. That isn’t the look of a man who is going to be done with one date and the kiss you two shared today at the diner. Whoa,” she says, fanning her face. “You had the whole place staring, wondering if we’re going to need to call the fire department.”
“You’re being ridiculous. It wasn’t that hot, it was just a little kiss,” I say, remembering how hot the kiss got in his kitchen. Now that one could have set off the smoke alarm. I laugh.
“Oh, what’s so funny?” Jess asks.
“Nothing,” I say, heat rising to my cheeks.
Becca pulls me from the closet. “That’s definitely not a nothing look. Spill!”
