“Slice the apple,” Oswald said.

“Exactly,” Snow said. “Sharing is caring.”

Oswald and the bachelors all broke into laughter, but the sound of the audience cheering drowned everything else out. Snow turned to find herself wrapped first in Clayton’s arms, then Judd’s, then one by one, they each hugged her.

“You’re divine,” Marcos said. Snow knew what this would mean to him.

“Now you can bring your family to America,” she said, smiling at his boisterous, glittering expression.

He grinned wider than sunbeams. “Yes. Yes!”

The cameras cut, and Clayton hugged her again. “Thank you,” he said. Several of the others mimicked their gratitude as well.

“I wish you all the best,” she said. Yet again, her cheeks hurt from all this smiling, but she didn’t mind one bit. She had come to care about each of these men. So much.

“We’ll keep in touch,” Carter added.

“You better. I want to hear how everything goes with your prizes!”

The men laughed and, one by one, left the stage. Recording stopped, and the crew bustled about, clearing the stage and chatting with one another until it was only Snow, Juliet, and Hunter on set. He turned to Juliet and offered her a hand.

“I know we haven’t had much time to talk in all of this,” he said, placing his other hand over their grasped ones. Juliet gave a little shrug and smiled. “But I want you to know how thankful I am that you came all this way to help Snow too.”

“It’s what any decent friend would do,” she said.

He released her hand. “I’d like to compensate you for your time as well.”

Juliet’s mouth dropped. She raised her hands in surrender. “Are you—I could never—I didn’t expect that at all. That’s not why I came.”

“I know,” Snow said, smiling at her friend. “I’m so glad you did. But you left your job to be here.”

Juliet scratched behind her ear. “Actually—I didn’t tell you, but your request to have me come was actually perfect timing. I got fired.”

“What?” Snow glanced at Hunter and then back to her friend. “How come you never told me?”

“I didn’t want to damper anything. You were already dealing with death threats. What kind of friend would I be if I dumped my problems onto the ones you were already dealing with?”

“The kind I can be a good friend back to,” Snow said. “What are you going to do?”

Juliet inhaled. Smiled. Shook her head. “Beats me. I’ll find something.”

“Then consider this a job,” Hunter said. “You could take up bodyguarding.”

Juliet sniggered and then burst out a one-syllable laugh. “You’re funny.”

“I’m serious,” he said. “You served that role for Snow.”

Juliet’s eyes darted back and forth as she waited for the punchline to drop. “I slept in her hotel suite and ordered all the room service I could.”

“Sounds like a start. I could help you find something,” he said. “What do you say?”

Juliet, a bodyguard? Snow couldn’t wrap her head around that.

“Do people even have women to be their bodyguards?” she asked with incredulity.

“Sure,” he said. “Plenty.”

“Name five,” Juliet challenged.
